Pixelot - Myria

After hiking through the Southhill, braving the Giblin Cave, and trudging through the Sewers, the party finally arrives in Myria! The long journey to the next town is complete! We can finally go talk to Luther…

The party has quite a few tasks they can (and might need) to accomplish first. There are a few quests available to the party upon reaching Myria. You are immediately presented the opportunity to recruit a new character, Lt. Ethan, by completing a quest to kill some more gators (back to the Sewers!). As a Sniper, Ethan has several unique abilities. First, he is able to cycle between three different types of arrows which all raise his power, and grant him additional abilities. Storm arrows add thunder damage and a chance to stun, bomb arrows cause your attacks to do fire damage to all enemies, and poison arrows well… Poison enemies. Aside from being able to rain arrows on all enemies at once and a powerful holy attack, the rest of the Sniper class’ attacks are based on a new target system. First you must use a targeting attack such as lock on, or lock down, (the former stunning as well). Once a target has been locked, the Sniper class can use the snipe attack on them. This is a very powerful attack, that may be used as many times in a row as you want until the target dies. There is a catch, you can only use snipe on targets that have been locked. The Sniper class also has two abilities due to the crystals collected by this point. First they have 10% piercing (similar to the Lancer). This adds a lot of damage to all of their attacks. Second, they do additional damage when attacking the same target. This comes in play when using snipe on the same target. Ethan also comes in tow with some very strong items so it is definitely recommended you pick him up!

Next, the player has the opportunity to visit the town itself! There a number stores selling equipment and potions as standard. Additionally players are able to cough up all of their gold for some very expensive albeit very powerful cloaks. Players are also able to go to the barber shop and change their hair style and hair color. Finally players are able buy relics at the flower shop. They are also able to buy a rose, which comes into handy for a side quest about two lovers!

Before being able to enter the castle and reach Luther, players must pass the Sage’s Trial. This requires the party to visit the town academy, beat up a few mages, and talk to the professor. These mages have powerful elemental abilities that magnify the elemental advantage and disadvantages. This means most magic attacks will do very little damage unless they are an opposing type. Professor Maple will express that the party needs to go to the town library and defeat the books there. The player is also presented with a quest outside the library for a powerful epic relic.

The Library mini dungeon is a series of mazes that the player must solve in order to reach the final floor and defeat the boss. The boss is a powerful book that can revive it’s allies and raise it’s defenses. There are a number of good items to find in the maze that make it worth while for the party. After completing the mini dungeon, the player is able to return to Professor Maple and be granted access to the castle!

Thank you so much for reading and I really hope you guys are looking forward to the early release as much as I am!

Pixelot - Myria Castle

The final dungeon is here.. and it’s a doozy. Upon entering Myria Castle, the party over hears the Paladin Kyle talking to the Royal Family when he is interrupted by Master Luther, who kidnaps the royals and places a barrier on the Royal Tower. The party then heads off to try and help break the barriers on the final tower. The castle has 4 Elemental Towers, that each must be cleared in order to reach the Final Tower.

The Storm Tower, the first the party can reach, boasts a series of electrical puzzles the player must figure out. By rotating individual tiles, the player must build a circuit in order to send power to the closed door. The enemies in this tower are nearly all storm type, giving them increased resistance to water and ice spells and making them vulnerable to earth magic. Almost all of them also have the ability to stun you when you are hit by their spells. After defeating the lead mage, you are granted a blue key and the storm seal is broken.

Using the Blue Key allows you to enter the Ice Tower. Here players must solve sliding ice puzzles similar to those found in the classic Pokemon games (catching Articuno for example). These puzzles get progressively more complex the higher the player climbs. Similar to the last tower, these enemies are all ice/water type, which makes them resistant to fire and weak to storm. Defeating Aaron Burr (lol) gives you the red key and allows you to enter the Flame Tower.

The Flame Tower boasts powerful Maglords that must not be interacted with. These Maglords have increased stats beyond the level of similar enemies. Similar to the Dark Tomb, these enemies patrol around the tower and the player must weave in between them. With enemies being fire type, it’s a good idea to use ice and water abilities here and not earth. At the top you must defeat a Maglord. On completion you will get a silver key and the Maglord’s magma edge, a powerful epic axe.

The final elemental tower is the Light Tower. Here players must traverse through a maze of boxes with limited visibility. All the enemies in this tower have the ability to heal themselves which adds an additional challenge. Using dark spells is crucial to victory here as the enemies are highly vulnerable. At the top of the tower the player will finally reach Kyle. Kyle and his allies will then battle the party. This boss fight is particularly difficult because of Kyle’s increased health, ability to protect and heal his allies, and the ability to lower the party’s attack. Upon defeating him you will have the opportunity to recruit Kyle the Paladin, Louis the Heavy Knight, and Mike the Royal Knight.

The Heavy Knight class has very low speed but very high damage. With increased critical damage, the Heavy Knight specializes in performing high damage attacks. The two signature abilities of the Heavy Knight are Gravity Slam and Colossus. Gravity Slam does more damage to faster enemies. Colossus does immense damage but also stuns the Heavy Knight.

The Royal Knight is a very well balanced class that can protect his party in numerous ways. The primary two abilities are Royal Guard and Royal Cloak. The guard ability protects an ally for two turns, making it extremely useful. The cloak ability will protect the entire party from magic damage. This will come in handy as Luther only deals spell damage.

Recruiting Kyle gives you several unique and powerful items. An epic helm and armor is coupled with an epic cloak. The helm and cloak can be equipped by anyone. His relic, Lights Might grants a whopping 20% power, which severely increases the damage of whoever equips it. Finally Kyle comes with the first legendary item in the game. A sword with incredible power that also restores 10% hp to the party each turn. This weapon is only equipable by Paladins.

Finally the party is able to reach the Royal Tower. This tower features enemies from all the elemental towers as well as powerful knights. After solving a series of teleport puzzles, the player will finally reach Master Luther . Master Luther is the most powerful boss to date. He has four unique forms, representing each tower and each element that a sage can cast. It is crucial that the player exploit the elemental weaknesses or else he will be devastated by Luther’s incredible power and allies.

I know this was a lot so thank you for reading! I am trying to work on the end game content as much as I can so I can get the game out to you guys! Thank you!

The art style comes off as very condensed almost looking at the GUI and the tree objects Tongue

But if that's what you're going for, then I don't think it could go wrong in this case.

I always love rpg's, maybe this time the story demands characters with names, you know? What I love of "Zelda: a link to the past" is to play the role of Link. And so with other games like that. Visually fits perfectly. Mechanics look nice (are you planning in puzzle mechanics, for example?).

Have you got an itch.io website? I'm curious!

Nice work!

Pixelot - The journey Continues!

Hey! So it has been a little while since I posted but I wanted to get these devlogs in so that you can know what’s going on in the world of Pixelot!

At the end of the early access players were told to go to the dark tower to level up. Players are now directed to go to Harbor Town, which is east of the Myria gate. Luther now tells the party that the crown prince, Lord Christopher II, needs some assistance on the island of Wyrm.

In order to get to wyrm, the party needs to travel to Harbor town and catch a boat. Once in harbor town, the party meets up with some dwarf Vikings looking for body guards against the pirating that has been going on. The Vikings do not think highly of you and they battle you to test your strength. Once defeated, the Vikings agree to let you ride with them on their boat.

Sure enough while sailing, the boat is attacked by pirates. Hamchop, the captain of the Vikings offers to help you deal with party and in so doing joins the party. After defeating the pirates, the Vikings set fire to the bridge between the two boats, leaving you stranded on the pirate boat. Quickly the party hides down below and waits for the boat to dock. As they arrive into a cove, they notice a stowaway named Chelsea. Chelsea the oracle agrees to help you fight the pirates in the cove.

After working your way through the pirates in the cove, the party gets surrounded by enemies. Gary the gator gang leader returns to help take care of the pirates. With Gary holding down the cove, the party goes to meet the admiral to finish things once and for all. When the party walks in they see a demon named Elizabeth who, like Catherine, is another of the Dark Lord’s 3 daughters. Elizabeth summons a powerful three headed snake that crushes the admiral.

This hydra boss attacks 3 times per turn, one for each head. The hyrda also poisons the party, stealing health and adding to their own. Once they have dealt with the hydra, the party is elated to find the water crystal, increasing their defensive abilities.

This cove dungeon is only one of the new dungeons that is going to be released with the new update! I hope you all are as excited for this update to come out as I am.

Pixelot - Class Promotions

A new feature I’m really excited about for Pixelot is the addition of class promotions. When a character reaches level 60, their class gets promoted. Not only does this result in a new look for the class, it also changes their attacks and stats! Here are the class promotions! All promoted class skills deal a little more damage than base class skills. For example all attacks that hit the enemy party have 40 power instead of 30. Here are some notable changes to each classes skills:

Paladin -> Templar
After upgrading to the Templar class, the Templar no longer has to use truth in order to use wrath and judgement. This means they can combo much quicker and deal a lot more single Target damage. Templars also replace their powerful fire attack “Sol” with “Crusade”. Crusade does as much damage as Sol, but also ups the Templars power by 10%. Templars have the ability to equip clothing and heavy armor, and also gain the ability to equip lances.

Reaper -> Soulblade
Soul blades have their first combos removed like Templars. This makes it much easier to combo to the powerful Reap and Luna skills that Reapers and Soulblades have at their disposal. Soulblades also replace their “frostbite” skill with “Soul Blade” which had a higher power and also ignores 40% of the enemy’s resistance. Additionally, when a Soul blades casts Icy rage to boost their power, it also boosts the damage of their next attack by 50%

Ranger -> Hunter
Hunters no longer need to cast sting before venom and ambush. Their stun arrow improves to a multi target attack called hurricane which stuns all non boss enemies. Their reload skill also no longer takes a turn, meaning they can reset all of their skill cooldowns and immediately use one. Hunters gain the ability to use axes!

Sage -> Magus
Magi can cast their fire and ice spells in two turn combos now. Their lightning attack increases in power and enables the “Stormbolt” attack which deals heavy lightning damage and lowers the resistance of all enemies! Magi can also use swords!

Ninja -> Samurai
Samurai no longer need to cast quickblade before using dark blade. This means that the ninja can deal damage and hide in the same turn, allowing them to continuously go in and out of hidden cycles much quicker than before. Samurai also have the ability to wear light armor!

Lancer -> Dragon Knight
After Garrett’s promotion his offensive abilities are drastically improved. He gains a power two turn single target combo with Sky Lance and Meteor. His slash and cyclone abilities are changed to fire type, and his piercing attack is changed to a 100 power fire attack that ignores 40% of the enemy resistance. Dragon Knights also have the ability to wear light armor!

There are plenty more changes to classes as they promote and I invite you to check them out in the next update!

Pixelot - Mt. Magmor

After gaining the Water Crystal, the party heads towards the town of Wyrm in search of Lord Christopher II, the royal prince. Upon traveling the sandy shore, the party comes into contact with several monsters called Orgos. These monsters are all considered boss monsters because of their high stats and size. This means that you will not be able to use any stun attacks against them, and that multi target attacks will not work to your advantage. The party finds Chris in the manor in Wyrm. He is elated to see you and asks for your help in calming down the Orgos.

The village of Ogra lies just west of Wyrm. The party travels to the village and battles their way to center room where they confront the Orgo Chief. It becomes clear that the Orgo chief is being controlled by the demon Catherine, alike to Luther being controlled in the first release. Once the Orgo Chief is subdued, the party is given some Orgo Boots, which allow them to travel north of Wyrm towards Mt. Magmor.

After returning to Wyrm to recount your accomplishment, Chris asks for you to go to Mt. Magmor in order to figure out why the mountain has been releasing such heat. In order to reach Mt. Magmor, the party must cross the Searing Sands. The Searing Sands map is very large and the only way to traverse this desert is to stick near the red flags marking a path for the party to follow. Straying too far from the flags will cause the party to get lost in the sand and return to the start of the map.

Once the party has reached Mt. Magmor they find it inhabited by powerful dark knights. The knights claim they were tasked to reawaken Salamandro, a powerful beast that they hope unleash on the village of Wyrm. In order to make their way to the core of the mountain, the party must use the old mine carts to ride to different parts of the dungeon.

Upon reaching the core, the party is faced with the 3rd and final demon sister, Amanda. The party reaches the core too late and is face to face with Salamandro. Salamandro periodically raises his defense and power, making it a necessity to defeat him quickly before he becomes too resistant and powerful to kill. After prevailing against Salamandro, the party finds the Fire Crystal. Unfortunately before they have a chance to grab it, Amanda snatches it up. Dismayed they did not collect the crystal, but elated that the mountain is returning to normal, they head back to Wyrm.

Mt. Magmor has been one of my favorite dungeons to work on. Creating the mine puzzles was a good change from previous mechanics. The wild monsters in the mountain and the Searing Sands include foxes, golems, and bombs. These bombs explode during their first turn to do some heavy damage and also killing themselves. The mini boss of the dungeon is a dark knight that comes with 3 bombs. Periodically he will detonate them and revive them dealing massive fire damage to the party.

I am nearing closer and closer to being able to release this massive update for Pixelot. Currently I am in a phase of deep deep testing to ensure there are as few bugs possible when the update is released!

As always thank you so much for reading!

Pixelot - Dragon Trial
I’m really excited to share the last devlog post before the update goes live!

After defeating Salamandro in Mt. Magmor, the party goes back to wyrm to find that it is under attack by demons! The party rushes to the aid of Lord Christopher and he joins your party!

Christopher is a Lord / Highlord with powerful defensive abilities. His main attack deals damage and combos into a piercing attack. He has two multi target attacks, the first lowering the defense of all his enemies and the second reducing the damage the party takes. Lastly he has a powerful single target attack that boosts the damage every party member deals on their next attack. His Gaia Blade ability boosts his power and causes his attacks to deal additional earth damage. He has a mirror shield ability that reflects damage on one target and a black cloak ability that blocks all melee damage. His final ability, steelfire, boosts defense and power for the party.

After defeating the demons in Wyrm, Chris tells the party about the dragon trial, a mystical quest into Mt. Volkor to defeat the Dragon Lord Volkor and ask for his protection. The party convinces Chris that they are going with him whether he likes it or not and so they set out to Volkor Valley to begin the trial. The trial consists of three parts, the fire dragons in the valley, the ice dragons in the mountain, and the storm dragons on the mountain top.

The fire dragon trial is relatively easy and simple. The party travels east through the valley defeating fire dragons until they reach Blacking, the leader of the fire dragons. Blackwing and Garrett get into a … Heated… Discussion and a fight ensues. Blackwing has a powerful fire attack that also lowers the party’s defense. He has a strong tail swipe attack that deals physical damage each turn as well. After defeating Blackwing he warns you that the rest of the dragons will be more difficult and gives you a dragon coat. The dragon coat is an epic armor piece that has high power, balanced defense and resistance, and can be worn by anyone.

The ice dragon trial is the longest stretch of the trial. To traverse the cavern in Mt. Volk, the player will need to navigate through several ice puzzles, switches, and locked doors. There are a number of really powerful items in the cavern including a dragon scale that ignores 30% of the enemy’s defense and resistance. Once you reach the end of the cavern, the party faces off against Azura, the brood mother of the dragons. Azura heals herself and her three eggs each turn. After only a few turns the eggs will hatch. If the eggs successfully hatch they will turn into dragons and be healed to full health. These dragons have infinite power and will 1 shot the party if they are allowed to hatch. The boss fight serves as a sage race as the player must balance staying alive and defeating the eggs in time. Once the eggs are defeated, the rest of the fight is much easier. After defeating Azura, she vows to protect your town and the player takes the ladder to the top of mountain top.

The final stretch of the dragon trial is consisted of a few maps where the player must defeat enemy storm dragons and climb higher on the mountain. Off to the side of one of the paths is a rainbow scale relic that reduces magic damage by 30% which is very helpful against the final dragon boss. Upon reaching the peak of Mt. Volk, the player battles against Volkor the Storm Lord, a powerful storm dragon. Volkor deals massive electric damage and always stuns 1 player per turn. A great way to counter this is to have a sage use purify on the party. With their high speed they will cure paralysis for whoever is stunned (unless of course they are the ones stunned!). If the player manages to defeat Volkor, they will receive his protection and the Storm Crystal!

The storm crystal greatly boosts every hero’s offensive abilities and overall power. Once they collect the crystal they meet with Astrum again and they challenge him asking why they need to get more of the crystals. Astrum informs the party that the demon sisters have started a war between Hyperion and Vangarde, the two counterparts to Myria. This is the end of the story content for this update!

While players wait for the next update the have the ability to compete against bosses and monsters in the arena! Defeating the last boss in the arena grants the party a legendary cloak that boosts stats for the hero each turn. When the party recruits Chris, he has a legendary bandana equipped that boosts critical strike chance. The party also has the ability to forge a legendary spear that increases damage against dragon enemies. This is very helpful in the dragon trial and against the last Arena Boss, Prisma. Prisma deals massive damage, is level 75, boosts her own stats, and lowers the party’s stats each turn.

I have been working diligently on Pixelot for the last 4 years. This game has been a huge passion of mine! Growing up playing games such as Pokemon, Fire emblem, and Final Fantasy, I always dreamed of making my own game that combines my favorite aspects of rpgs.

I initially released pixelot last spring, and i got a lot of feedback about how great the game is, and about improvements people thought I should implement. I have really worked hard this last year to create an update that extended the content of the game dramatically and implement the feedback that I recieved.

I created the world map feature so that people could fast travel back to locations they have been (Similar to flying in pokemon). I added the upgrade system to add more depth to the character customization and importance of items. This also gives people a little more to do after they finish the game! I added a tutorial map to the start of the game to help people get used to the controls, battle system, and explain equipping items. I added a more detailed view for viewing your spells and crystal abilities so that people could better understand how they work. I also added little ! notifications when your characters get a new attack, spell, or ability, so that you are always in the loop about how your characters are changing as they level up. I added a lot more story content so people could really grasp where the game is headed and the overall plot!

I really hope that you guys love this new update as much as I do and I am really excited to hear what you guys think and implement more feedback! This is a huge milestone in my journey developing this game, but the journey is not over and I plan to keep adding more to the game!
