I opened this Devlog as a place to show some platform game ideas, only here on TIGsource forum, trying to post a small game idea every month. At my daily job I work as a programmer, but I want to experiment my game design ideas on my free time. I believe making prototypes to test and iterate small ideas is a right way to start, so here I am!  Smiley At the moment, only platform games (I love them!  Shrug)

Everyone is free to post suggestions, ideas, tell me to go to hell, everything is accepted Gentleman

2d artist / pixel artist / music composer: I WANT YOU!  My Word! I constantly looking for artists to work together in a small idea (only 2d games at the moment) just send me a PM! In absence of someone to work with, because I can't drawn / compose music, I just look around to forums and sites for free assets and take inspiration with that.

During the Middle Ages, the King ate an exotic food that legends called Enchilada, and now he cannot stop farting.
Help him to find the Magic Stone, deep into the forest, and to reclaim his butt!









The game has some humor, trying to make a laugh to the player and incentivate him to continue to play. The double jump is made with particle / sound fx to simulate a fart, to make something unusual and funny.

I took in ming every player skill, but intended for hardcore platform gamer mainly for the treasure positions. The treasure are there for a purpose: the player will discover that he/she needs to have 7 treasure chest to see the secret room, so it is a way to try to incentivate the player to push his/her skills in more harder moves to collect the missing treasures. With this method the game can be expandend, blocking the player in moving to the next level if did not collect enough treasures (I took inspiration to The End is Nigh of Edmund McMillen ).

Probably the prototype is not challenging enough for various reasons, mainly because I found during playtesting with friends that starting a game with an hard difficulty could be a bad design to incentivate to continue to play, and also the rooms were a bit too small to place nice level design ideas, probably a Zoom Out of the camera could be beneficial.

I made it at home in a month during free times (in about 16 hours).

Working on a new prototype, called Atomic Cathode, where the hero called Ray needs to enter in the Tube. Despite the black and white color, the art style will be inspired by the lo-fi 80 style, with pink/blue color theme.

Although I wonder if it's still maybe better to make one thread per game. I didn't realize this was kind of a collection devlog.

Those games look really good for one month each. Are you doing everything yourself? Also what tech are you using to develop with?

I add all them in a devlog because they are a series of prototypes, that will be used to develop the real game (I will take the nicer ideas). I think that because they are playable prototypes of 10-15 mins max each, a devlog for each one will be a waste "space memory" on the Forum  Tongue And because I would not add other post in case of a DevLog for each game, that thread would be lost  Sad

The assets are made by artists/composers, their names are on the credits of each game, I made everything beside art and music, so the level design, the mood and some coding. I am fast probably because I have already a framework that handles the logic of a platform game, Corgi Engine, on Unity, so I can use my time for the game design part of the prototype.

Exactly! I have a lot of ideas and settings that I want to implement in a game, but my free time is very limited.

A previous project I was working on, a 2d platformer called Daemon, after I worked on it for more than a year, it became difficult to have the same excitement that you had the first month, with no safety that your game will be released some day, and I wanted to still iterate with more ideas that was difficult to add on Daemon. So the decision made was to create a series of prototypes and being sure to work on the best idea to propose to a publisher, and not to stick with the first idea I had that moment.

Just in case, if you know how to draw, we could work together on something!  Wink

Hah, I actually played a 2D platformer called Daemon from two LD's ago, but that was a different one!
