For all you RPG and wild west fans, Pixel Gunfighter is a western action-RPG with a fast-paced, real-time combat system and 8-bit retro graphics. The game's central story revolves around the main protagonist who is a bounty hunter. Pixel Gunfighter is being developed for mobile devices (iOS/Android) however if there's enough demand then a Steam release will definitely be considered.

Note: All screenshots are mock-ups and all visuals posted below are a mix of different concept/WIP visuals that are being experimented with as the finalized style has not been decided yet. Please feel free to offer your feedback on this.

Fast-paced duelling system with bullet time effects. Attention to detail has been added with the main hero lighting up a victory smoke after he wins

A quick demo of snowy weather on the mountainous regions with the occasional snow flake landing on the camera lens

A mock up of the main interface

Core Gameplay

The game's core revolves around a 'wanted' poster system. The player enters the sheriff's office and picks a wanted poster. Each poster lists numerous rewards and unlocked upgrades available upon completing that particular mission so it's in the player's interest to choose carefully (depending on what they want to unlock next and how confident they are with the enemy levels on that mission). Then round up your posse (or go alone), saddle up, head for the hideout and clear out the gang in a fast-paced gunfight. Afterwards, head back to town, collect your reward, and have fun upgrading and purchasing weapons and various items to help you on your next mission. While you're at it why not chill out, play some games, talk to the locals and earn their respect? They might even help you out by revealing vital information (or they might betray you!)

PLEASE NOTE: All the GFX below are from a much earlier demo which had NES style GFX.

This shows a typical gunfight involving yourself and a few posse members versus four enemies. Some bullets can miss or even cause critical damage depending on the weapon you're using and what effects are currently active

You'll have access to many items that can aid you in a gunfight. Dynamite is one of them, although this particular stick of dynamite is pretty weak as far as dynamite goes :D

Planned Features Include:

- Fast-paced, bloody gunfights
- Duelling system for taking on gang leaders
- Bullet time and weather effects
- AI controlled posse members who will support you
- Various mini games, events and side activities
- Over 100 weapons to unlock
- Side missions that unlock even more potent weapons
- Purchasable explosives, armour and items to aid you
- Unfolding story line revolving around the main protagonist
- Unlockable endless modes
- Retro 8-bit style pixel graphics and animations
- Estimated 20+ hours of gameplay in main campaign (25+ with all side missions)

This shows an example of how the player can exploit a quick window of opportunity during a hostage situation where the captor may use their hostage as a human shield. In this case, she actually kicked her captor in his 'family jewels' and quickly ducked. While he's busy worrying about the pain to be able to shoot, you're free to go trigger happy for a second or two

Mockup Screenshots

Arm yourself, head out and clean up gang territories. This also shows a slightly reduced interface than you've seen so far.

This shows a typical hostage situation where some coward is using his hostage as a human shield. In these cases players have to be extremely careful when pulling the trigger so as not to hurt the hostage. (This goes without saying but explosives are out of the question here!)

This shows the player being backed up by two posse members. These are AI controlled and will automatically fight on your behalf. Posse members tend to be smart and careful when it comes to combat decisions. For example, they will not engage the enemy if there's a hostage involved. Only when the hostage is safe will they open fire

This crude map of the main town shows which buildings are currently available. A larger overall map of the land with various other locations has also been planned.

Socialize down at the saloon. Spend time drinking, playing poker and chatting to friends

Talk to the locals, win their trust and find out vital information. Bella is one of several friendly NPCs in the game, but be careful as not all NPCs are what they seem as some may have hidden agendas.

Possibly Planned (But not 100% Confirmed)

- Duel SFX voicing. Both standard sampled sfx and 8-bit sound are selectable by the player
- Duel soundtrack voicing. Hollywood cinematic and chiptune options are selectable by player
- Steam release for PC

Love me some western themes!

Curious: Where does the "8-Bit" come in?
