I did some style research for a new project.
It's very early prototype but am I heading in the good direction?
The uv mapping is not totally correct. I'm just looking for the general feel of the game.

Nice sprites! The blindingly glowing fog on the ground isn't my thing. It makes my eyes want to read the composition as a big blurry mess. Maybe if it were only half the intensity that it is, it'd be OK?

Looks pretty great otherwise.

So the background is kind of 3d-ish and the characters are 2d-sprites?
Seems interesting, but I don't think that black-border contrast of the sprites matches well into the background.
Either remove the inking and  work with more color based contrast or also make something similar with the backround (borderlands style)

yes 3d levels with 2d characters.
Thanks for the border removal idea, I'll try that
I made more test but not decided yet the final style.
Looking at it after several week, I feel too that the mist si too dense and blurry.
Also, I've not yet decided if I stick with this 2D/3D mix or go for pure 2D.

The 3D/2D mix is interesting. Maybe you could try to apply very subtle paralax on the walls so they would not be so flat ? There is too much of the glowing fog, I would reduce it. The ground is too messy. Maybe try larger and more simple shapes with some subtle details here and there, maybe patches of grass or fungi. The overall direction seems interesting, it is just too chaotic in this stage.

Thanks for your input. I'll probably go for 2D only for this project but I keep this style in my head for future projects.
