I figured this thread would already exist in some form, but I looked about 15 pages back and couldn't find one...

Let's rank our all time overall favorite games! I've been thinking a lot about this lately, because my number 1 just got bumped. This doesn't happen often! My list is usually pretty stable, unless I encounter something new that's truly outstanding.

MY LIST:
1. Celeste
2. Yoshi's Island
3. An Untitled Story
4. Super Mario Bros. 3
5. In The Groove 2
6. Pump It Up Infinity
7. Deadly Rooms of Death
8. Super Mario Sunshine
9. Chrono Trigger
10. Final Fantasy Tactics

Honorable mentions: Majora's Mask and Paper Mario. Basically tied for 10th place.

How about the rest of you? I'm really interested to see how things shake out for people with different tastes than mine.

even though i am strongly opinionated about computer games, i would be hard pressed to name 10 particularly good ones off the top of my head. if the question were "name 10 master system games" i think i could do it

Hard to put a particular order, so as an unordered list!  Excluding multiplayer only games.

Also, no way I could narrow it to 10 :/

There is one exception though, definitely my favorite game is
Ultima Underworld

The rest of these are fairly tied Tongue

Zelda: Links Awakening
Silent Hill 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Ultima 7
Nethack
Disgaea
Soul Cradle
Mana Khemia
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney
Metal Slug 2
Harvest Moon
Seiken Densetsu 3
Secret of Mana
Crono Trigger
space quest 2
Half Life
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden
Demon's Souls (RIP online play, gone is the age of "sticky white stuff"...at least with dark souls 3 now we have "ahead finger but" :/)
Bloodbourne
Drakengard
Drakengard 2
Drakengard 3
Nier
Nier: Automata (what can I say, Yoko Taro is a freaking god)
Elite: Dangerous
Eternal Darkness

If i were to include online games on here
Unreal Tournament 2004 w/ECE
Team Fortress Classic 1.0
Ultima Online 1997 release to "The Second Age" expansion, before they completely re-wrote the game in 2000 for the "Renaissance" aka gutting the fantastic game to be a shallow everquest clone expansion.
Neverwinter Nights Diamond (I know it has single player, but the single player was overwhelmingly mediocre, only it's online was good, but it was REALLY good)
Ark: Survival Evolved before the patch that allowed dino and item cross ark transfer
"The Culling" before the developers decided to gut the core melee combat in favor of adding in tons more flashy guns and ranged weapons and making them super easy to get.

- Sigma Star Saga
- Castlevania: The order of Ecclesia
- Front Mission: Gun Hazard
- Panzer Dragoon Saga
- Chaos Seed
- Torment: Tides of Numenera (I have no idea why I love it so much and why it's this game and not the first one... no idea Epileptic...)

1. Star Control 2 - My all time favorite game
2. Loom - Because it was different from typical point&click adventures and because puzzles weren't frustratingly difficult
3. Kerbal Space Program - Because realistic space program was made fun
4. Streets of Rogue - All I ever wanted from a couch co-op
5. Minecraft - Sorry
6. Hotline Miami - could look and listen to it for hours
7. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes - My favorite party game since Heroes of Might and Magic 3
8. Magicka 2 - one of the funniest games I ever played
9. Elite Dangerous - new favorite game of boring flight simulator in space
10. Project Brutality - yes, that Doom mod that looks a lot like Brutal Doom

Other contenders:
Space Engineers - still too slow and unstable to be fully enjoyable
Godus - would be the best god game out there. Unfortunately, they forgot to add gameplay
Settlers 2 (and the 10th anniversary) - best settlers out there
Rimworld - I want to buy this very soon
Millennia: Altered Destinies - possibly the best idea and content in the video game history, but awful, awful awful gameplay

Glad to see I'm not the only fan here, I honestly think the game gets a lot of unfair hate just because it's SO big that it takes a while to really get into the thick of things.  I never found it boring though, been playing since beta and using the Oculus with it since it launched and am almost triple elite now....and wanted in many many systems for acts of piracy against other players, lol (My Fed corvette with two class 4 plasma cannons absolutely demolishes even an anaconda..I also have an asp outfitted perfectly as a quick strike fighter.)

IMHO Space Engineers is the  best survival/construction game bar none, i just wish it supported more than 4 players without lag.  4 players and under though it's perfectly stable with no lag online even with CRAZY shit going on. (hours in we normally end up saving off the game then going into full "diebuster" mode throwing moons and space stations at each other, lol).  It's the only game I've ever played where I screwed up, got caught in the planets gravity well, managed to crash land, and my friend up in orbit had to devise a way to send me down supplies I had a hard time finding  to help me build a rocket to get back off). For the best experience use the "Lone Survivor" start, it's been there pretty much since the game first came out and is still imho the best game.  After you load in though add planets to the map so you have a bit more to explore...it's crazy how quickly this game can generate and render in a huge planet on the fly.

There's currently the whole shitstorm because devs said they will no longer work on new features, but rather improve stability and remove bugs, so everyone's like "but mah features :,(" like they don't know how to click on steam workshop Facepalm
