Hey guys, I'm from the UK and fairly new to making independent work.

I've just shipped a game and it's won some awards. We're getting invited to award ceremonies all over the world but we're pretty broke. I'm in two minds to borrow the money to attend these ceremonies or just say we can't go. I can't help but feel that these events are a bit of a money making scheme too.

Is it worth the invested time and money for indies to do this?

do computer games even have a festival circuit analogous to oscar qualifying film festivals? what would you hope to get from these award shows? have you heard of any of them?

the way it works in film is you spend a few thousand making a heartfelt short animation. then you spend a few hundred submitting it to various festivals around the world. you pick up enough screenings and awards to make it onto the big boy ballot, and then you lose to kobe bryants vanity project.
