Hi everyone - I have three games-related websites that need some graphical/layout design. Although the three are separate, I'm "managing" all three (one directly, the other two as the lead person on a team), hence why I'm looking to recruit someone for all three. There's no requirement for the same person to do all three, but all three will pay (negotiated depending on the size of the job we decide on, but each one is in the $800-$1300 range, so ~$2500 to $4000 total), are roughly the same size/scope, and all three have roughly the same timescale (i.e. ASAP!).

1) Website for new academic journal. It's called Critical Gambling Studies, and it will be for scholarly papers about gambling that are not about psychological studies (responsible gambling, problem gambling, addiction, etc) but rather about historical, social, economic or political studies. For example, we'd be looking to attract papers on topics like the history of gambling cities like Monaco, Macau, Vegas; papers about cultures of card-players in different countries; papers about loot boxes and other kinds of gambling in video games; papers about casino architecture; papers about depictions of gambling in literature, cinema, music, etc; papers about gambling on esports events; and so on. I'm sure you get the idea. As such, here we're looking for imagery or a sense that makes it clear this is a journal about gambling, but one which is not ethically damning about gambling, but is rather interested in exploring it. This one might be Wordpress, or might be a totally custom layout, but it's probably (80% likely?) going to be Wordpress.

2) Personal website. I've had a website for many years now, but it was entirely about the game I make rather my broader games work or anything else, and it's time to change this. Basically, I do two things which I want to combine in the layout of the new website. Firstly, and foremost, I'm a games academic; I study things like eSports, live streaming on Twitch.tv, fantasy sports, gamification, loot boxes, and the like. So here I want something to imply these areas of research: maybe a game controller, a poker chip, a webcam, these sort of things (any ideas?). Secondly, I make games, specifically a "roguelike", which you can learn more about at http://www.ultimaratioregum.co.uk/game/info/. I want this aspect to be integrated into the overall website layout by having some ASCII-style graphics, shapes or images from the game incorporated into the layout/format, etc. So I'm looking for a custom layout which firstly makes it clear I'm a games scholar, but secondarily also makes it clear that I make and design roguelike-style games! This will be Wordpress. I have in my mind something at least vaguely along the lines of http://bogost.com/ - so my academic work front-and-centre on the homepage - but with more image customisation of the sort described above, and a central role for a blog. Probably looking for some kind of big banner to do at the top, a side banner that is present as the user scrolls, and a consistent colour scheme.

3) Website for research group for early-career (i.e. PhD, just-out-of-PhD) gambling researchers. This is a new research group to promote networking and collaboration for young gambling researchers; it's called RANGES, which stands for Research And Networking for Gambling Early-career Scholars. This will again be a Wordpress site. Here, therefore, we're looking for imagery which still has an obvious "gambling" element (here's the logo: http://www.ultimaratioregum.co.uk/perhaps/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Ranges-Logo.png) but also has things like maybe books, conference lecterns, mortarboards, University-esque buildings, journals, and the like? So a hint of gambling, card games, etc, but also a clear visual focus on University stuff. This is not a journal nor a personal website, so we basically want a blog page that can be updated, and then lots of static pages with information, contacts, forms for newsletter sign-ups, etc.

These are the basic outlines for the sites at the moment; I'm totally happy to jump on Skype or something and discuss in more detail with those who are seriously interested. As such, all three jobs are primarily visual design - colours, banners, graphics (we're definitely looking for graphic art, silhouettes, etc, not photos) etc - with a small amount of layout design (or whatever the term would be).

I think that's everything, but do feel free to message me here, or on Twitter at mrj_games, with any questions. Thanks everyone!
