It depends actually, sometimes I like to watch the cinematics of a game but just make sure it isn't that long as I don't want to spend like half of my time watching cinematics. But a little cinematics is always good !

Half-Life 2's start is great just taken on its own, but it's also an amazing response to the first game's opening.

It's unique in that it's the only game where throwing the cooties covered can at the guard initiates a game of kiss chasey. No wonder it got so many GOTY awards.

reading this thread again and someone says prey(2018) lol no its just one gimmick its 40 minutes of reading emails in empty rooms and than you hit headcraps with a wrench without any reveal scene or buildup to them. Its also has trademark Arkane writing that insists that alternate history steampunk + family members = engaging.

My personal opinions and also I could forget or do not mention some games, so no flame please 1. BioShock: after the plane crash, swimming towards the tower with beautifully reflections of the fire and the moonlight, and the presentation of the city. 2. Uncharted 2, train climb on a cliff, one of the best opening in a game. 3. Portal 2: the room completely unfolds itself and transforms in a funicular. 4. Batman Arkham Asylum: escorting the Joker. 5. Prey (2017): how you find out where you really are. Yuh, uncharted 2 is a great example. I most surely agree. You can fall into a trans (sp) watching the opening of that game. It's awesome bro.

I thought the opening to Shadows of Mordor was incredibly well done. They introduced you to the game mechanics and laid out your backstory at the same time.

Contra: Hard Corps intro. You drive into a bunch of aliens then crash, launching yourself through the windscreen and directly into gameplay
This is beautiful.

Yes, I quite enjoyed the opening, showing his wife and the bound with Talion, even if I do not consider it one of the best intro. Anyway it is something that was missing in the sequel Shadow of War, I found the opening less inspiring overall.

I think final Fantasy 7 has a sick intro. I think most of them did really, I can only remember the last 2 versions without having to pop in the cd and see them again. But they did a heck of job,on that intro. Kudos to them.

The Last Of Us. Definitely. For me it was one of the strongest opening for a game.

5. Prey (2017): how you find out where you really are.
The 2006 Prey has a great opening too: Oh yes, I forgot that even Prey(2006) has a cool opening! Agree, even if the 2017 has that story revelation at the beginning that I was literally open-mouthed

you could listen to music by noted right wing figure and firearms enthusiast Ted Nugent in that game...

Who would have thought that in a game where you shoot lots of guns there would be a song by a guy who likes shooting lots of guns.
