hello, i am "out of the loop" when it comes to indie games despite being an intergalactically famous video games journalist
i have several lines of enquiry:
1. everything went to steam, but thats for people who want to make money instead of starving to death. are there any hubs of free games?
2. what are the "classics", the must haves, the tried and true things that a person who plays games on their pc would install on a new one?
3. i love physical violence but not really a big fan of shooting and i think i have adhd. are there any games i, in particular, would like?

Hello sir, I have just released a high quality game jam game that my brother and I made in less than 10 days! https://chrismacadam.itch.io/trumpyjumpPlayable in browser I might add using arrow keys and space bar!! You are trump knocking people off a wall by shooting monies or bopping on their head mario style. On another note.. Itch.io is great for some free indies, if you aren't aware. Not really playing any other free games right now so I guess this was more of a plug, but also curious what other people post here. I too am game dumb

This sounds a little like: What is your favourite game (must be popular and fairly old)? IF SO, I would probably at some point end up reinstalling: Skyrim, mount and blade warband, tropico 4, Civ 5, Fallout NV, TF2

GeneRally, a dinky top down racer with a dinky filesize. Oolite, a recreation of Elite. MDDClone, ports of all three Mercenary games which were early open world games released on microcomputers so you're going to have to have a tolerance of how games that old did things. Zineth, a superspeed skating game with a visual style envisaged by a person who previously had no concept of colour in their life just got given a bucket full of paint. Raising Speed GT (despite being in Japanese it's easy to find your way to the download. You don't need to be logged in), a racing game just like they used to do in arcades which means it should appeal to anyone who has taste. Left option on title screen starts game, right option quits (or use the cross in the corner of the window). X accelerates, Z brakes, A changes camera view, arrow keys to turn and change gears (up and down on car select will change between automatic and manual gearbox too). Controllers also supported, randomly stab at buttons to find out what does what.

Hmm, I thought they released it for free some time ago, guess not. It's quite hard to find so I think it may qualify as abandonware. Not sure though.

I was sceptical so I did a bit of looking around and yeah, all I got were a bunch of abandonware links but also a demo on Fileplanet which is probably more surprising that it's still going. Anyway, on to more free racing. Pretty Chaser is just bare bones enough to still be enjoyable and Greatest Drivers is a easy to get into rally game with minimal tuning options.

more japanese developers need to put their games on itch instead of crappy webhosts that will disappear with no warning. at least vector is still up, though.
