morrowind was best game, despite having awful combat, boring writing and broken white supremacist roleplay system. Also most of the game was trying to find which cliff is walkable and pausing every 3 seconds to see a map. In fact that game sucked ass

Agreed. But when your game has to appeal to as wide a base as possible, I can see why they don't want the player to get stuck, even for a moment.

What annoys me the most about AAA games is that " I'm addicted" to them! Seriously though, I think the most annoying trend is full priced games having microtransactions. The thing about them is that I don't think they're going away anytime soon though. Putting aside EA Greed™, companies need to pay for their servers, and the whole point of MTs is that people with more money essentially pay for the server costs for others. The problem is that it's framed like gambling, and people then bankrupt themselves.

You can often actually turn off the aggressive highlighting of important details. So necessary for enjoying the noncombat half of Tomb Raider I wonder why they didn't put this option on the difficulty select screen.

-Locked difficulties. -Microtransactions that make playing the game, or parts of it, without them a chore. -Half-arsed stories. (there are exceptions of course)

Until customers collectively demand more than pretty 'casino' games and/or game makers become bold in bucking the silly trends, I don't see this changing.

you should just do what i (stellar genius without peer, gets these weird incredibly coarse pubes on occasion) do and only play yakuza games because they're all 850,000 hours long so you don't have to play any of the shit you don't like

As I get older, I started to like quest markers and games that only last a few hours

I finally completed The Witcher 3 a couple of months ago. I'd played through the first two, and really just felt compelled to finish the series, but I found it to be pretty rough. As wonderful as the writing and characterizations were, the whole "game" aspect of it just felt so by-the-numbers to me. The signpost system and minimap design killed any sense of mystery or drive for exploration that would have made the game world feel a lot more lived-in. I recognize the industry is moving in this direction as a whole, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't find that horribly depressing.

its as if all resources went into crunching cutscene and facial animation engine because team lead was into it and gamedesigners didnt liked him. if there is one thing i learned, expensive looking cutscenes are priority for gamers.

If The Witcher was like Yakuza and you got to have sex with mythical gangsters would it be for you?
