Hi Tigsource community,

State of the game
We’ve been working on a game called “The Molten Rock” for over a year now and we’ve managed to release a demo which contains the prologue. It is a 2D action-platformer with a challenging combat system.



At the moment, we’re working on the second demo and we’ve decided to have a devlog where we could show our progress.


Key features
We aim the game to have these key features:
  • Player can switch between rock and lava bodies
  • Exploration of a dark world using the body light
  • Multiple ways to finish levels (multiple paths)
  • Challenging combat where also deaths matter
  • Surroundings can be used for advantage when fighting enemies
  • Unique boss fights where strategy is necessary

The game is currently in pre-alpha stage. Next demo is expected to be released early November, 2018.

Hi everyone,

We've implemented new platformer features in the game:
  • Rope cut - Allows objects which are attached to the rope to fall down
  • Cylinder traps - Kills/damages player when hit/touched

Please, feel free to leave comments regarding the new features.

Hi all,

Haven't posted any update in a month.

A new feature has been implemented in the game, where the player can activate buttons using his projectiles, resulting in triggering some event. In the example below, once the button gets pressed, it moves the platform.

Hi everyone,

We are happy that we can show the title screen of the demo!

The most important thing is that there'll be two demos:
  • Prologue
  • Chapter One Demo

In the main title screen, the player will be able to choose between the two:



After the player chooses "Chapter One Demo", the screen fades in/out to a new title screen:



Please, feel free to give feedback regarding the progress of the game. It is much needed!

Introducing some of the enemies

There are 3 basic enemy monsters:
  • Ground Walkers
  • Ground Fighters
  • Rock Huggers

Ground Walkers
  • Short Range (melee)
  • Slow
  • Low HP
  • Low Attack Damage



Ground Fighters
  • Medium Range
  • Slow
  • Medium HP
  • Medium Attack Damage



Rock Huggers
  • Short Range
  • Very Slow (while walking)
  • Very Fast (while rolling)
  • High HP
  • High Damage (when touching player)

We have finished developing a mini boss in the game.

The mini boss has these attacks:
  • Arm Swing
  • Shield Slam
  • Ground Slam, creates a shockwave
  • Rock Cast, sends rocks flying down
