I want to have a (short) introduction to my game showing our logo (yes, its a flying logo intro). I'm gonna render it in 24bit TGA frames rather then an AVI or such and the plan is then to convert it to another format.

My problem is that I don't know what formats are good, and more importantly if there's any formats thats free, or at least royalty free. I think Bink video looks really nice but I don't want a Bink video in the middle of our intro.. - if you know of a format or player that looks great please let me know! =)

Theora, like Vorbis (.ogg audio), is one free for "whatever you want" use.  It's supposed to be similar to DivX/XVid, as far as how the compression works.  But beyond digging through the docs, I don't have any first hand experience with it.
