Even though it's a cover, it's still very cool!

Juan Atkins is pretty famous but I knew nothing about the other guy, googling him (with query "Richard Davis 3070") got me here: here's a good article about the history of cybotron: http://www.spin.com/2013/10/cybotron-clear-reissue-dave-tompkins-sci-fi-techno/rik davis is imo a more interesting dude than juan atkins (i respect juan atkins a lot, mind you). unfortunately he got kinda snubbed by music history as "the guy who broke up an innovative electronic band because he wanted to make a rock album", which im not sure is actually true. from that article, it sounds more like atkins wanted to capitalize on the club success of songs like "clear" and "alleys of your mind" while davis wanted to continue in a more "song"-oriented direction with conceptual lyrics. also none of the solo stuff davis released under the cybotron name is anything close to "rock". people forget that davis pretty much came up with the whole sci-fi/"afrofuturistic" aesthetic that detroit producers continued to mine for decades. also it should be noted that the version of clear that became a hit was actually a remix done by someone else. the original version is a lot weirder, particularly the noisy outro.

Right now, piano music. But the night is still young, and I tend to listen to a variety of genres.
