In the way of hardware, light tables are priceless. Also, just draw a guideline on the bottomest page for alignment stuff - just like, an x/y axis and similar such landmark type stuff to keep from straying too far off course. Use tracing paper/turn on light table and they'll shine right through.

lets see if i've lost my speedy draftstyle. i'll try to get something done in a few hours.

EDIT: done. i decided to make a stick figure animation. But his head does serve as the basic "ball" animation.

Alright, this is a very basic utterly noobish question. But I never been able to get things look alike from frame to frame, how do you do it?

Same way you get to Carnegie Hall: practice man, practice!

But more importantly, are you using proper construction techniques? There's some very good advice on that here:

Without good construction things will always look liquidy/floaty no matter how well you tween it.

Pencil decided to be a dick and crash and then subsequently delete all the frames that I had indeed saved.

So I did an animation in Gimp 2.6
