Any thoughts on this and how the market is evolving?

Probably just more platforms. PC game discovery isn't just limited to steam anymore. This forum, IndieDB, itch.io are great places to find games that are doing something different than what is published on Steam.

TLDR: Some people are tired of Steam.

I agree.

Since steam direct I don't really bother to check new releases any more and use other means. It is an untenable mess imo like a mobile app store. It used to be a good way to find stuff and I might take a punt on something when I knew there was some sort of curation.

I think they wont have too much of a problem with users, though since existing ones are tied in with their current purchases - but potential new users may getting put off
