Love the walking trees! Enjoying seeing more stuff moving in general, even if the environments are as pretty as ever.

The white blobs in the last picture read as creatures or people in a foetal position to me, is that intentional?

Thanks! Those are supposed to be small skulls but the fetal thing is potentially more interesting, kind of reminds me of people seeing that within the giygas fight in Earthbound.

The area itself is a bit low in detail so I might try to touch it up a bit at some point, here are some other tests for it.









Also did some palette tests the other day, I'll probably swap in some better grass in these or add it into an existing area.

Thanks a lot! I have some ideas about having the bump combat from Ys along with the Hydlide/Zelda like sword swinging. And then just find a way to make each have it's own appeal like one being safer and the other doing more knockback, damage, or reach etc.

Here's an idea I had for a while, a Stone ship tower at an ancient port. By using bits from a couple pixelated photos, shrunken down and edited a bit, for the ships tower dome and the boats general shape and sides. Hopefully they're modified enough to not look too borrowed since they were just found on google but It was really hard to figure out how to get it started from scratch.

Looks awesome! I'm happy that there are still people drawing inspiration from Hydlide. It's such an underrated series in the west.

Thanks! There was just such an ornate old world magic feeling to Super Hydlide and Ys 1 and 2 that really stuck with me, I loved the movie Neverending Story and those games always reminded of that.

Now that you mentioned it, I can totally see the visual connection to Neverending Story in your artwork. Your doing a nice job capturing its essence with so few pixels!

Getting a start on combat (finally) with some simple sword animations. I'll probably add a swinging frame as well and make the sword visually stand out a bit more against the busy tiles. Still hoping to test some Ys bump combat too!

Mostly wanting two attack types for game play preference sake but then maybe having it vary depending on a monsters weakness or what weapon you're using, short or long sword, range weapons, etc.

Got a bit sidetracked with a new port town mockup but I'll return to the sword mechanics again soon.



And then tested to see if I'd want to have the ship tower there, along with a few other palette options.
