I've been selling games for quite a while now, however I'm not too knowledgeable about what GST/HST I have to pay. Right now I've been paying the highest rate on sales where I don't have the province data and when I do I pay the rate for that province.

But I'm not sure I actually need to be paying this. Do storefronts like Apple, Google etc pay these taxes on your behalf? I've read all their agreements and I'm still not sure. I know there probably aren't a lot of lawyers and accountants reading but I'm wondering if anyone can give any guidance on this? Thanks.

EDIT: Also, what do you pay for GST/HST on sales in other countries if anything?

Yeah, I don't think anyone on this forum has much information on this unfortunately. I think the best course of action here is to seek professional advice from someone in your area, though I don't know how expensive that would be.

If you do end up finding out what to do, please do post your findings here. I get the feeling this would be quite useful information for game devs here that live in Canada!

Although I live in Canada, I happen to live in the ONE Province where it's different than you and very straightforward...
and we pay our taxes Sad and that's it... andit blows.
However, I imagine you have access to the small businesses preferential rate?

I just put everything through a online tax filing thing every year, I'm not really sure how it all works. I don't earn a whole lot so I usually don't pay tax besides GST/HST. How do you calculate your GST payments (or do you?)

Unfortunately I can't afford an accountant ($250/hr, couldn't really afford 1 hour.)
