(previously "Siege Game")

Stonefall is based on a Minecraft session with my friends:

  • We made up rules, built fortresses, etc. and started sieging each other.
  • Sometimes we sieged each other simultaneously.
  • Sometimes there were defenders and attackers, and switched roles at the end of the rounds.
  • But there were lots of issues, clunkiness, caused by Minecraft's sandboxness.

So I decided to make a prototype around this concept, so my friends and I, based on testing and playing, could make a game which would be perfect for us.

The main concept is that there are:
  • destructible structures,
  • siege weaponry, artillery
  • melee and ranged combat,
  • strategy, tactics and schemes ...
  • and most importantly: it is easily moddable.

By making it moddable/configurable, it would be easy for everyone to come up with a gamemode which is fun for themselves.

I can't really talk about specifics yet because they are still undecided, and currently I am only implementing the basics of the game.

Long time no see!

Sorry guys but I've been studying a lot lately and as soon as I had some spare time, I was working on my Ludum Dare 42 Post Mortem, "Vain", so I could finish it just before LD43.

As soon as I finish my remaining exams I will star working on this again.

I finally managed to create a workflow which lets me transform any voxel models into destructible Unity3D prefabs under 30 seconds! :D

And it will be pretty useful when the player's build system is finally done. Smiley

Buildings are finally implemented.

It's a bit clunky, but these are just the basics.

I wonder how will this project look in a few months :D

Well, long time no see (again) Smiley

I've done a visual overhaul, I think the aesthetics are much bettter now, and the game is a bit more fleshed out.

The next job is reworking the user interface!

The first gamemode of my competitive voxel FPS game, called Stonefall is coming!
It's pretty basic, but once the framework is done, creating new gamemodes will be pretty easy  Smiley

Something that would be cool for this sort of game would be some maps, where at the start of the match, the defending team, or both teams (if they both get a fort), have 1 minute to place their walls and gates etc. Basically, the map is static, but it features natural points in the terrain that would be good for walls and gates, buildings, static cannons etc.

In this way, the attackers are never quite sure what they're going to come up against, but there is a finite amount of tactics that the defenders may use. Gives the game a sense of strategy that I don't think you'd otherwise have; and that would make it a real competitive game.

This week Stonefall got optimized a bit!
I implemented mesh combining, chunking, and polished many things.
Next week I will continue working on the 1st gamemode. Smiley

You are a mind reader :D Originally this was my plan, but it was such a huge scope, that I decided that I will build up the game incrementally, lowering the overall risk of the development.
Thanks for the comment Smiley

Next I will rework the UI according to the first gamemode's design.

Should Stonefall have a fully voxel terrain?
Would it fit the siege oriented battles?
A big turning point in my indie game's life!
