Would it be silly to create an flash exe to setup to sell as shareware?  Sort of going both ways, submitting a demo/limited version to game portals.  Then using the traffic, or redirects to try to convert to a download/purchase from my site, or distribution.   Or is making a shareware flash exe totally just silly sounding...

I believe a lot of people did that already. Many flash games on newgrounds had a 'full version' you could buy. and probably still have.

this has been done but not too often. the reason is that flash isn't hardware accelerated, so if the goal is just a stand-alone downloadable even using game maker is a better idea than using flash. some games manage to succeed with it though: dofus is one i can think of (though it's not shareware, it's a downloadable flash mmorpg)

First-half can be played online, second-half you need to download it and pay 3$.

And it's awesome.
