Edit: Oh no I paged it!!

Edit 2: Cave Story

Sky

Got rid of the clouds and the sun for the last few pictures as the old graphics didn't really jive with the new shader and stuff, but now I've made brand new ones!

Colours still need some fiddling but after two days of messing with this I'm quite happy with it overall!

I love the saturated-edge watercolor effect that they have. Is that done in the texture or in the shader? I imagine the former gives more control but the later would give more flexibility. Or is it again a "hybrid" trick?

Thanks!! Kiss Bit of both once again, yeah~

Thank youuuu!! Tears of Joy

Not a biggie but feel free to edit the post with the whole post quoted if you want C:

Added volume to the clouds today! It's somewhat subtle in a still image, but it really makes a difference in motion. There's just one more thing I want to fix before I show you a GIF, hopefully tomorrow. Blink

I like the melancholy of the scene. Really beautiful.

Reminds me to go out more often before evening ( I live 150m from the sea, very nice sunsets are quite common at my place <3 ).

Thank you! And yes, skies in real life can look incredible for sure. Kiss

So here's the GIF on schedule! The thing that was missing was a bit of parallax, as it looked weird when the clouds were completely glued to the camera.

Fountain

Had a first go at modelling that fountain for the square where you meet the first character!

I'll add some more details later, especially in the alcoves, but I'm trying to figure out the general gist of the final art style now, not finish it all up for release in one sitting~

Haven't done the water properly yet, and I'll wait to give you an in-game screenshot because it exposed some problems with the shader that I want to figure out. Cheesy

Not fully decided on the colours yet…

Anyone else instantly hear...

Regarding the colors... well, the entire palette of this game is in the range of "I should shut my colorblind mouth and not give advice" - no worries, it still looks colorful and pretty! It's just that I have no idea what kind of colors I'm looking at half of the time so I should refrain from giving advice  Tongue.

Is it pink? Brown? Beige? A weird purple? Granite-gray but I'm expecting a color so I hallucinate one? I dunno!

Good song Coffee

I mean, hopefully it looks nice regardless of colour perception, so I hope it does to you too Smiley Tried to think about it in terms of contrast as well, so I hope I succeeded there.

Only colour difference in the alternative pictures is the staircase, so the three options are grey, white or granite to match some other part of the model. c:

that is a nice fountain!! not sure which color I prefer, I think I'd need to see it in the environment with lighting and all.

Lovely fountain! When I see this kind of detail on all your assets, does this impact how big your world can get? Making all these assets takes a lot of time, how are you limiting your scope? I find it's hard to go back on detail, so the better something looks the higher the expectations are for everything else.

Thanks, everyone! Not an architect, merely interested. Cheesy

Still experimenting with the art style at this point, so not sure yet where it'll land, but I'm hoping to be able to speed things up over time by building up a little library of elements to reuse. Borrowed the whirls from the gate here, for example. Fountain is a main set piece tho so it's getting some extra care either way. c:

Also working as procedurally as I can and trying to figure out workflows and automation~
