Been staring at this and tweaking it for like three days and I just can't tell anymore so I would love second opinions on this! Who, Me?

I'm not just trying to make something watercolour-like, I really do want it to literally look like watercolour if I can.

You're going to hate yourself if you're going to animate flowing water then Cheesy

It looks absolutely stunning!

It looks really good, and if I didn't know better I'd def think it's actual watercolor! One small point though, maybe the tree could use an inner layer of leaves with a darker color? It might give it a bit more depths, since right now it kinda looks "empty"? As if the leaves aren't actually attached to the branches.

it looks great!!

i'd love to give better feedback but i'm not a watercolor painter at all. I did a quick google image search for some examples and found many different styles. some paintings are quite 'loose' with the edges, some seem to leave parts of the canvas untouched, etc. do you have a reference that you're targeting?

Wooh, thanks! Looking forward to animation, rather. Gomez

Here are my main references at the moment. Haven't got the credits for them but hopefully it's clear that I'm just looking at these for inspiration and not directly cutting out textures or anything from them. Smiley

EDIT:

Had some more time now, so did a reverse image search for them:

Still feel like I'm missing some element, but this is my best attempt yet I think. Found another good technique online that I was able to incorporate, helped a lot: https://forum.unity.com/threads/watercolour-shadow-shader-effect.379102/#post-2462060

As for the tree, you might be right. I feel like it was that way before, not sure if I'm misremembering or I just broke it somehow. Cheesy

Yeah, it always looked like this, I just only now put my finger on why it felt slightly off (but still very much gorgeous!)

It's soooo pretty. You could have thrown it in with your watercolor examples and I would not have suspected a thing

I said it before, fountain look gorgeous. For some feedback (but I guess, it's still draft and that you placed fountain bit randomly and you will tweak it anyway).

- tree is quite blocking access to stairs
- fountain seems unproportionally big to me, comparing to nearby house ( or is it house which is small? Smiley )

I love melancholy of those reference paintings you're using and I must say, you do good job to invoking melancholy in Ao as well.

I can really see that being done with water color, so good job on that!

Thank you so much, everyone! This is super reassuring. Tears of Joy I'm glad it seems to provoke the mood I'm going for as well.

Things were indeed placed randomly for the picture, just wanted to make sure everything and not just the fountain looked right with the shader~ And it's the house that's small, yeah. Cheesy

Will see what I can do about the tree!

Bridge blockout

So here is a rough model of the thing!

I have a bunch more details in mind and I just threw on textures from the fountain for now, but I don't want to keep working on it for the time being; square blockout continues with more rough models first. Smiley

Did another sketch before modelling this, so here you are (I do think I want the model to curve a bit like this as well):

Another angle:

This will take you across one of the channels and up a level along the hillside, with a tunnel below as well:

Thank you both! Kiss

Another sketch:

I do still want to try and make that house building tool I started on work, but it doesn't hurt to figure out what houses should actually look like first, and there are going to be a few more unique buildings like the town hall and (more importantly for now since I'm working on the square) this central channelside café where there'll be plenty of conversations to listen in on.
