Human Horizon - Devlog #1 -

What is Human Horizon?

Human Horizon is a 2D space exploration game where we control a fugitive astronaut who has stolen a spaceship and is trying to find a treasure hidden somewhere in the universe. He will need to discover new resources, planets and even galaxies in the universe, harvest and upgrade the spaceship and the equipment.

What we have worked

We started this project four months ago. When the project was born it was an arcade game with 2D art and a spaceship able to travel through space due to simulated physics.

After the first month, we decided to make a more ambitious project. We introduced the astronaut and we started to create a harvest, craft and deploy system. For these days we made another big change, our art went from 2D to 3D.

Where we are right now?

Right now we changed the scope of the game so we could be able to develop it in time. The deployable mining system was removed and the craft system is more limited.

Welcome to Human Horizon dev blog. Here we will post new additions to our game and updates on the progress we are making.

New Menu UI

Today we are showing the progress made in the Main Menu interface. We've decided to go with a style that resembles the actual game graphics, looking for a full immersion the second the player starts the game.

We've added some functionalities to give the player the possibility of customizing the experience, like changing video, audio and game settings to their preference.

(To note: the planets are placeholders, looking to add variety to them when our artists finish designing them)

Keep in tune for more information about Human Horizon.

Any feedback is welcome!

Galaxy System Navigation

Today we are showing how to navigate between different galaxies and planets in Human Horizon. This will be done through two different UI's, the first one which will give a general view of the whole galaxies available in the game, and the second one, which will be handy as a quick resource to get a reference of the player's position in the current galaxy.

General galaxies view

As shown in the GIF above, the player will be able to select a galaxy and view the different planet types, also will be able to go into that galaxy using jump cells (depending of the distance between your current galaxy and the galaxy where you like to go, it will cost more or less jump cells).

Current galaxy view

As shown in the GIF above, the player will be able to see his current location within the current galaxy, set waypoints to mark the planets where the player wants to go (In a same galaxy, not between different galaxies) and see the distance left to the selected waypoint.

(To note: most of the assets are placeholders, looking to add variety to them when our artists finish designing them)

Even with the placeholder assets, this game looks really neat! Especially the animations make it pop!

Today we are updating our devblog to show some of the new UI's and mechanics that the game will offer to give the player a feedback on the materials and upgrades obtained, the progress done in exploring the different galaxies and the treasure keys found to continue the game story.

Inventory System

The new inventory system gives the player feedback on what upgrades are already unlocked and the materials in the cargo hold. As shown above, the left column gives list type information on the materials that the player has already collected. In the other hand, the right side UI shows the upgrades the player has unlocked and can equip, like different type of space suits, ship upgrades, etc.

Galaxy Codex

The Galaxy Codex will give the players a resource where all the planets visited will be marked and grouped in galaxies, having a place with detailed information on the planets which could come handy in case the players needs a specific material or has to go back to a planet already visited.

As shown above, when the player first enters this menu all the galaxies visited will be marked. When accessing it, planets inside the galaxy will be marked as already explored (having a render of the planet aesthetic) or unexplored, which will show a white question mark and the planet grayed out. When clicking in an specific planet, a new UI will appear, showing useful information about the planet (temperature, radiation levels, food availability, etc.) and the resources available in it. Furthermore, a "History" button will let the player get a quick insight in the story surrounding the selected planet.

Treasure Keys

Finally, our new Treasure UI will show players the Keys obtained in each planet, which will be fitted in the grey box (PLACEHOLDER). When the player acquires all the keys in a specific galaxy, the box will open revealing new fittings for keys of the next galaxy which to explore in order to progress in the game narrative.

3D Models

Additionally, today we are uploading some of our 3D models used in Human Horizon. Take a look at them below:

Astronaut:

Ship:

As always, our game is being developed right now so many of the footage and images shown are placeholder art.

Hi! We`re going to publish Human Horizon on PC (Steam) and, maybe, in a near future we will try to publish it for Nintendo Switch.
Thanks for your comment and keep in tune for more information about Human Horizon. Wink

Hi guys! Today we are sharing some of the concept art for different space suits the player will be able to obtain throughout Human Horizon. This space suit upgrades will be a key element to maintain survival conditions in harsh new planets, where temperatures, radiation and other kind of hazards will rapidly kill a human not suited accordingly. Check them out below:

We look forward to show you this models in game, keep in touch to get the latest information on Human Horizon development progress and remember feedback is always welcome!

Hello! We've been working hard in Human Horizon and today we bring you our first teaser trailer of the game. You can watch it below, and don't forget to comment us what you liked and/or disliked!

We are also working hard in the tutorial to get a hang on the mechanics available in the game, covering basics like planet travelling, surviving in a planet's surface, material gathering and everything needed to explore safely in the inhospitable planets found in Human Horizon. We will post it soon with a first playable teaser demo.

Hi!

Today we are showing the new designed and implemented upgrade system that the player will find in some of the planets scattered around the galaxies to find. This upgrades will range from space suit resistance, better ship maneuver or longer mining beam, just to name some of them.

Below you have a GIF showing the interface implemented for this upgrades with a visual mockup of how this feature will look.

The upgrades we are aiming for and some that you can already see above are the following ones:

Ship upgrades:
- Jump Cell consumption upgrade
- Jump Cell Fabricator
- Asteroid Mining Laser
- Space Walk Cable

Tool upgrades:
- Gas collector
- Liquid collector
- Repairing Laser
- Recycling Laser
- Mining Laser

Suit upgrades:
- Magnetic Boots for space travel
- High temp resistance
- Hight toxicity resistance
- Jetpack

The upgrades are pretty self explanatory, being Ship upgrades aiming for a simplest way of travelling through galaxies, Tool upgrades focusing on new tools and gadgets to recollect a wide variety of resources and Suit upgrades focused on new movement options with better resistances for harsh environments.
