Meeple Station shipped on Steam and itch.io as an early access title 4 weeks ago, so this dev log may seem a little odd, but one of our goals is to post weekly updates for a year and leave early access early 2020. So without further adieu, here is our first post.


New Docking Structures
Airlocks will no longer serve the purposes of trade, now you'll need to build a slightly larger and more costly Docking Gantry to accommodate trade ships. You'll also notice that when clicking on the docking structure, there is a menu with some (currently) locked features we are working on, which will allow you to swap your trade dock into your own shipping dock, to construct and manage vessels of your own!



Tutorials implemented
When you are so close to a game for such a long time you quickly learn all of the nuances and shortcuts, but for our early players it was a different story. As a developer inspired by deep, complex games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress - one of the first challenges our players faced was the difficulty curve. We quickly addressed this by including tutorials which cover the basics, as well as improving tooltips and other prompts. The game should now be much more accessible, so you can focus on building your space station instead of wondering where to start.



Jobs, friends and doctors
Meeples are human too.. well kinda so in order to developer their personality, they now automatically form friendships based on their interactions and likes/dislikes and will seek out the other Meeples they have bonded with. They will also form an affinity for certain jobs, not every Meeple is cut out to be an Officer! Furthermore the latest job added is "doctor". Meeples as you know get injured putting together equipment and will even get into a fight occasionally. Doctors will help turn those frowns upside down!

Interior Walls
Previously, walls couldn't be a divider, so your sexy space station suffered serious spacing out (so many S's to swallow). Now rooms can border the same wall so you can almost double the density of your build, check the screens below to see what I mean.

Content keeps on coming
Everyone is welcome to mod Meeple Station and add new content, here's a sample of some of the new toys and tilesets we've added to the world. Now you can spruce up and customise your station just that little bit more!

 


 


Tubes, wires and resources
The old cable and pipe system has been removed, and a new overlay launched to make is much easier to setup and organize all of your networks. The beauty of this change is it allows us to add water and waste lines to the station, just like real life.

Huge paaaaatch!

The huge patch resource overhaul has finally arrived, and with it, an entourage of new furniture and features. You'll notice there are now two new utility lines in the game, waste and water. You'll need to mine ice, melt it down, and use it to keep everything alive. And yes yes, we now have bathrooms, your Meeple are now slightly less slobbery. But on top of that, you'll need to manage the waste your meeple produce, eject it into space, or filter it to reclaim your precious water (so long as you don't mind where it came from).



YES CHEF!

We also have new Chef meeple, and kitchens! Food is now a tangible resource, meaning you can trade for food and whip up some gourmet meals for your hungry crew.. or just feed them raw fish, it's up to you of course.

Space fans rejoice, because Meeple Station the rimworld-like space station builder just dropped a massive patch bursting with new content and features to play.

First up the world map and planets have been totally revamped. This means your meeples now have a little homeworld and a story will start to unfold. The idea is that you'll begin your first station in orbit of a small moon or planet, and you'll be able to explore the other planets within your solar system using your own ships piloted by meeple. Take a gander at these teaser screens and if you want to start exploring the world and build a space station of your own, Meeple Station is 20% off on Steam for the next few days:

Multiple Stations
You'll now find a new feature with docking gantries, you'll be able to construct your own ships! Why? well you can now send crew and resources to other stations, YOUR stations in fact, to allow you to build and maintain multiple stations at once with their own trade lines!



Soon we will open up the entire galaxy, as you're currently limited to your own solar system. Second, we're going to overhaul the ship management system, as it's our hope that you'll end up with dozens of stations and a large network of ships, customised of course to your liking, and managed more effortlessly through an intuitive UI.


Hygiene is important
Of course an update wouldn't be complete with another challenge to tackle and that is the new odour feature. You best maintain a hygienic bathroom for your poor meeple workers.


UI overhaul is next
We have a complete UI overhaul coming in the next few weeks, as well as some overdue changes to how traders will work, introducing factions and persistent entities into your little meeple world.
