Night of the Little Birds is a side scrolling helicopter flight game featuring AH-6J Little Bird.
The game can be described as 'Simulation version of Choplifter' or 'Wings of fury with helicopters'.

I love video games featuring helicopters, and Little Bird / MD500 helicopters are my favorite kinds of helicopter.
Unfortunately, Today is suffering from serious lack of helicopter games and even the modern remake of Choplifter had been deleted from the store recently, so I decided to make another helicopter game after Golden Hornet and Steel Alcimus.

The gameplay is like the classic Choplifter Where you fly around the flat area and fight with endlessly spawning enemies, but there are some differences.

First, There will be more various missions other than lifting the hostages like Destroying specific targets, transporting troopers, and carrying cargos to the base. The missions will be randomly given each time you are playing.

Second, The control of the helicopter isn't very simple. In order to move the helicopter, You have to tilt the heli and control the rotor's power just like the real helicopter does. It requires some learning curves to properly control it, like Wings of fury or Sopwith.

lastly, Like the flight simulators, You have limited amount of ammunations and fuel. You have to return to the base to rearm / refuel but returning to the base will make the enemies stronger.

Managing resources and time is important to finish the mission quicker and easier.

Currently, I have implemented basic gameplay elements including enemies, missions, and some sound effects. I have to add a lot more missions, enemies, and some upgrades.

i am going to quote my post from another thread

hijong i saw your latest game in development, a choplifter-like which looks very good. i really like the ability to use the people you pick up as side gunners!





have you ever played the arcade game "jackal"? it's like a top-down choplifter with a jeep, i think you would enjoy it.

I'm sorry to say this but using passengers as the sidegunner has been deleted, as it wasn't very useful and made the controls rather confusing.

- Added Place holder title screen.

- Added New enemies including KA-60 Transport helicopter.

- Added the enemy type that attacks your base. (Currently there's SCUD launcher truck.) The game overs when your base is destroyed.

- Added new missions : Sniper transport, Ally vehicle escort, intel search / delivery.

- If you jump out from the heli, The co-pilot will pilot it and follow you.

I'm doing many playtesting to get the balance and see if I can add more enemies and missions.

- Added wire to pick up cargos and crates.

- Added 2 more weapons : Grenade and sidearms.

- Added Loadout menu where you can replace engine, tail, radar, and weapons.

- Deleted co-pilot as It was useless.

- Added Scoreboard.

- Added Tutorial.

- All missions are finished.

- Completed enemy variety, there are 28 different enemies. I'll stop adding enemies at this point.

I had lots of personal problems and couldn't work on this game for a while, but I recently returned and almost finished it. The game is basically completed but need some more play testings to find bugs and balance the difficulty.

I experimented many alternative modes like dogfight, base defence, or even strategy mode, But they didn't work very well that I eventually decided to make only one main game mode.

Just like Choplifter, The simplistic basic gameplay was the best after all.

Night of the Little Birds is completed... but basically cancelled.

There are reasons why I suddenly cancelled it.

The concept is simulating more realistic helicopter controls in 2D, but unfortunately this concept didn't work very well.

I experimented many ideas but they didn't work very well, and weren't really that fun but rather boring and tedious.

Furthermore, Due to its counter-intutive controls, It was very hard to adjust the difficulty and making various enemies were basically impossible as they could easily make unforgiving situations.

So, I decided to finish it quickly - but basically cancelling the project.

I'm Sorry for everyone who were waiting for this game, but I'll keep trying to make a fun heilcopter game later.

I'm currently making a more fun, simpler, and better game instead, called Choky Supression.(https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=68678.0)

Hey, I mean better to figure out it has issues you can't fix now than to keep working on something you can't get as good as you want it.
