BITE THE BULLET

Bite the Bullet is a rouge-lite shoot ‘em up with RPG elements where you satisfy your hunger for destruction. You must eat to powerup your character, weapons, and abilities. Catalyze crafting fermentations in your belly by eating enemies! Customize your character with every choice and every bite. Explore three branching skill trees based on your diet - remember, you are what you eat!

A corporation set out on a mission to collect genetics from every species in the galaxy through research, experimentation, and force if necessary. Two mercenaries are hired for particularly "involuntary" specimens. Unfolding of certain events makes them realize, the company might have destruction instead of collection in mind, and must decide, to which end of the food chain their loyalties lie…

CHEWIE/CHEWELLA
A mercenary who was born with the implants that allow him to consume and metabolize any material is a half ghoul, which has left him with an identity crisis. He can enter an eating rampage in his Zombro mode. Despite his literal hunger and hunt for praise and victory he is spiritually empty and carries a void that no food or praise can satiate.

With the endless void, only food gives Chewie momentary pleasure and calories! Lots and lots of calories!

CALORIES
When eating anything, Chewie gains calories and some ratio of fat and protein. These are based on the food in question.

FATNESS
Fats contribute to chewie’s fatness. As he gets fatter, he gains different buffs as well as debuffs. There are 5 different fat thresholds.

Fat levels

Scrawny
  • No buffs
  • 25% increased damage received

Normal
  • No buffs or debuffs

Chubby
  • 15% reduced damage received
  • 10% slower movement

Fat
  • 30% reduced damage received
  • 25% slower movement
  • 25% jump height penalty

Obese
  • 50% reduced damage received
  • 50% slower movement
  • Can’t jump

MUSCULARITY
Protein contributes to the character’s muscularity. Like fat, muscularity also provides certain pros and cons at each level.

Muscularity levels

Shrimp
  • No buffs
  • 20% reduced max health
  • Slight movement speed penalty

Lean & Mean
No buffs or Debuffs

Fit
  • 5% increased HP
  • 10% speed bonus
  • 5% jump height bonus
  • 50% increased calorie cost

Beefy
  • 15% increased HP
  • 20% speed bonus
  • 10% jump height bonus
  • 75% increased calorie cost

Embodiment of Physique
  • 5% increased HP
  • 30% speed bonus
  • 15% jump height bonus
  • 100% increased calorie cost

The player has the choice of picking the right fat and muscularity levels to suit their playstyle.

With calories, the player will feel powerful and without it they will feel weak. With high muscularity level, they will feel fast with calories and slow without.

As speed and strength are relative, players can enjoy feeling powerful as they work up their calorie count, compared to lack of specials and slowness without calories. Having to optimize fat/protein ratio with high calories in a strategic way rewards players with high buffs and faster gameplay.

All that while learning to avoid eating some rotten and infected enemies because eating rotten food and enemies can make the player puke, causing Chewie to losing calories depending on the severity of the puke.

Certain consumables immediately provide a shift in player’s dietary stats.

Thyroid Medication returns players to a base status.
Diet Pills lower fatness by one level.
Mayo Bucket increases fatness by one level.
Protein Shake increases muscularity by one level.

COMPANIONS
Companions are unlocked when the player picks a class. They can be used as meat shields to block extra damage from enemies though their use doesn’t end there; they also provide different abilities to aid the player in slaughtering the enemies.

Meat Fairy giving player attack buff for a limited time

Plant Fairy spawning food around the player

These abilities run on a timer and can be activated after a certain cooldown, depending on the ability used.

Companions aren’t immune to bullets and can die after taking a lot of hits. Using them as a meat shield during a hard phase to survive as a trade off for it’s abilities is a decision the player has to make.

TWITCH INTERACTIVES
Enhanced excitement, infinite replayability and unparalleled fun. Bite the Bullet features several interactives to enhance the streamer, audience and gameplay experience.

We took some of the best of classic run & gun action games and spun it up with some new twists and turns for the Bite the Bullet universe. It’s been a few years of adjustments, tweaks, and play throughs at video game conventions, all up and down our Discord, and we’re finally getting to the finish line!

When an enemy is in a stun state, you can eat them to regain HP, gain crafting material, and eat parts of your environment. With four character classes, over 50 levels & a deep skill tree, there's a lot more than running and gunning.

Eating too much without running will make a character gain weight, which will greatly limit their mobility. Each character class (Carnivore, Herbivore, Omnivore, and Robovore - which means you eat metal) has its own unique abilities and perks.

Craft weapons, like a family sized peppered shotgun, or speed run for weapon drops from your favorite zombie enemy. Ever wonder what zombie meat tastes like?

Creating something that suits a more casual player, and still has some meat on the bone for someone who needs depth to get excited, is something we really focused on from day one. the eating mechanics, player character classes, storyline, diet based skill tree to enemy modifiers.

A game play loop that keeps players hooked is hard but satisfying to achieve. And to achieve such a loop, we opted to go for different enemy classes to provide variety within a level. With the change in pace to deal with enemies with different ranged attacks, you always have to be on your toes ready to deal with anything that gets thrown at you. This time around we will be focusing on the regular enemies and bosses that dwell the world of Bite the Bullet.

Enemies
With over 40 different types of enemies, Bite the Bullet is always full of surprises. Changing weapons and using your abilities at the perfect time is the key to eat your way to the top. From zombified riflemen to intoxicated squirrels, crippled ghouls to terrifying nurses, an angry toaster to petrifying chefs, suicidal unproportionate zombies to dire bears and everything in between. In BTB each enemy has a distinct look, different personality, a certain way they act and react to your presence, different skills and weapons to make things hard and interesting for the player while keeping the game fresh both visually and how the game plays.

Here are some animations from different enemy types in BTB for your visual treat.

Why stop at the sight of finished product? Here is how some of the enemies looked as a concept art in the early days of BTB.

Bosses
Each level of the game ends with a boss fight but to get there you first have to overcome the challenges presented to you by the varying platforming levels and enemies. With multiple phases, each boss takes certain skills, good use of abilities and a lot of bullets. With varied size and different attack types each boss is a completely different challenge.

A total of 9 main bosses dwell in the darkest corners of this world but some bosses not as mighty as the big ones aren’t as shy to show up right behind you out of nowhere. These mini bosses while not as tough as the main bosses, are still a unique challenge with some being ground based and others airbourne.

Main Bosses

Vulture
This little bad boy is the first main boss you encounter in the game. With 3 different phases, different attack types and loads of animations, Vulture is always full of surprises.

Flesh Golem
With a mighty rocket launcher on his back for ranged attacks, he isn’t afraid to rush you with a surprise hit.

John Henry 9000
Doesn’t he look safe to be on the far end of? Too bad, you've just been hit with critical damage. In Bite the Bullet you are never safe, bosses are designed to keep you on your toes all the time.

Noxious Gelatinous Self Aware Mass
This slimy bad boy is straight out of your childhood nightmares. With the ability to change shape he will not only haunt the ground but also the sky.

You can get a steam key and play test the game by joining the discord link above and give these bad boys a tough time and share your experience with us.

Skill trees are the soul of an RPG, they give depth to the character and helps you personalize its skills, abilities and perks the way you want and make him the character you want it to be. Bite the Bullet gives a twist to the already perfect formula and asks you to not only kill an enemy but to eat it to gain experience and level up. A game where every enemy is edible, the only thing stopping you is your diet.

The tree has five main branches, the first branch accessible to everyone is generalized with upgrades available to every player. The generalized tree gives HP upgrades, damage reduction and other boosts along with 7 unique perks. The other four branches are diet based and provide diet specific perks.

Run n Gun n Eat, but how do you pick what’s best for you? In Bite the Bullet you can either be

GORIVORE with a variety of killer skills and special bite attacks, this violent and aggressive class is all about Meat, Gore and Blood!

SLAUGHTERER OF THE SOIL A vegetarian class that emulates the patient tactics of plants. Cover yourself in thorns, pass mustard gas and become one with the tree to deceive and trap your enemies.

SMORGASBORG taking inorganic food to the extreme, your body makes the most out of metabolizing metal. By chewing on robots and drones, you can really power up your defenses.

I SEE, I EAT This is for the player who wants to eat everything. With no dietary restrictions, this class can distend their jaw to swallow enemies and even eat bullets.

Eating something outside your diet will make you throw up and lose calories along with other buffs.

We expanded upon the basic idea of a skill tree to provide players with diverse upgrade options and perks and added a twist of eating certain types to enemies to follow specific diets and gain its bonuses. The General tree itself gives 7 different perks available to the player following any diet plan. The player has the option to follow a certain diet plan and upgrade its tree to get diet exclusive perks and bonuses. Picking the right perks to suit your playstyle is crucial as each perk consumes calories and running out of calories can slow your movement and debuff other stats.

Here is the skill tree, fully zoomed out to show its scale. The top portion is the Generalized tree, Slaughterer of the soil to the left, I See I Eat at the bottom, Gorivore to the right and Smorgasborg in between Gorivore and I See I Eat.

Here is the Gorivore part of skill tree in action
