I'm launching a blockchain platform and want to release a 4X strategy game alongside it. I have some basic thoughts on what it could be but am not a game designer.
There are several constraints:
1. The blockchain system is not 'real-time.' It only responds to transactions sent into it. Therefore, you do not have any concept of a running clock, automatic actions, etc. Everything must be a reaction to the set of inputs a player sends into a game. There can be automatic functions that happen every time someone sends a transaction into the game, but this is expensive. Computation costs players a lot of personal stake.
2. Simplicity is key. The more simplistic this game is, the easier it will be for the developers to implement and bug test.
3. The game must be infinite. Players must be able to enter wherever they'd like and players can be eliminated from the game due to a combat mechanism or take over of some sort.
4. The concept of actual economy and loss should be incorporated. Owing more of the board should be rewarded monetarily.
