Hi,

in my current game, I'm upscaling all gfx 2x, so 1 pixel equals 2x2 pixels on screen. And this also includes all texts and fonts. I like how everything is scaled the same way, but the fonts looks more jagged when upscaled, while they look crisp and clear if I draw them in hi-res without upscaling these.

Should I keep upscaling the fonts to the same resolution as the game itself or should I use hi-res fonts without scaling, but getting a more crisp look on the tests? What is your opinion on this?

(Unfortunately, I can't provide an example right now, but will try to update this post later with 2 screenshots)

If the upscaled text is harder to read, then use the high res font. Else, upscaling is most likely fine, as it better matches your overall art style.

It highly depends on your font. I personally use a low res pixel perfect bitmap font that I upscale, or a high resolution vector font.

Thanks Smiley - I've created a couple of pixel fonts for this purpose, since my vector fonts got blurry.
