Hi,

Linesland is a board game that I developed to learn new technologies. Now I share it for those who like games.

The game consists of joining lines to unlock boxes. Normally the player who unlocks more boxes wins, but keep in mind that not all boxes are good.

You will earn coins for each victory. With coins you can buy special skills to use against your opponents.

I feel the boxes being random sort of robbed the player of a bit of fairness. I won my first match by dumb luck simply because one of my boxes was really good.

Also once the game was over there was no victory or game end screen? Was that a bug?

That the boxes are random is the only way I've found to make sense of the skills. There are skills to see the hidden boxes and thus unlock the best ones.
On the other hand, I need feedbacks from players like you to adjust the probability of the boxes, which at the moment are the following:

I get the random layer being sort of a Mario Party kind of thing, but it sort of clashes with how hardcore the strategy element to your game is. Its an old zero sum turn based strategy with a pretty clear game tree at its heart, then when you win the hardcore strategic bare-bones strategy game, you have to roll dice and it completely determines your fate based on RNG. I'm not sure it works as a concept just b/c of the dissonance between the strategic element and the random one. I'm not saying its impossible to make this work somehow: it makes me think of games like Mario Party, but in this state idk why I wouldn't just randomly pick lines and hope for the RNG to bless me.

tried it. did not understand it. some boxes give negative points, some positive all with different values. I could not understand on what basis and did not see the rules anywhere prominently. I actually won my last game, although I received a lot of negative scores.  Shrug Shrug Shrug

Couldn't find the skills anywhere. It might be interesting with them, but without them the RNG is killing it for me  Concerned.

Hello there!

Thank you for your comments, they help me a lot. Based on your feedback, I will make the following changes in the next releases:

  • Create game end screen
  • Do not set random boxes, all of them will be +5
  • Only the player will be able to set negative boxes using skills
  • The only special boxes will be prison, x2 and x5 (with very little probability)
  • Improve login screen
  • Improve store visibility
  • Fix some board sizes on large screen
  • Create rules section ("How to play")
