Yeah, I also think it would be annoying, kind of like how Resident Evil 1 controls were horrible but considered a feature by the fans. I should have been more clear about that - the comment was more intended to provoke ideas about how this could work.

Initially I thought about doing it like in the point and click adventures where you have to hold a key down to see all hotspots.
But I thought that this would be an overkill in some places. Only showing hidden stuff while holding down SHIFT or something would probably be ok. I also tend to add lots of options, so players can play the game how they want. So, I might add an option to turn on/off the sparkles. There already is an option to toggle tutorial hint texts.

I expected something so intense after the last few comments that I kept waiting for the effect to actually get going when I watched the video, and then the video was over. Cheesy

So, Thaumaturge wants to reduce the effect and Prinsessa wants an explosion...  Undecided

I think the "visual presence" is quite balanced as is too.

I do wonder if there might be a more appropriately "spooky" effect than sparkles though - it looks quite playful, which might lighten the mood a bit too much

In all fairness, you can seldom go wrong with a good explosion. Tongue

One minor clarification, though: I don't exactly want to reduce the effect--I want to simplify it. I have no argument with it being bright and bold--it's just the busyness of the sparkles that doesn't quite work for me here.

I am curious: where is that from? It looks familiar...

I was just kidding. I think I've understood you right. Smiley

I've just drawn that as a sparkle alternative after JobLeonard wanted something more spooky.

The part where the eyeball slowly rolls out of view is very nice

Ah, fair enough! I'm glad of that, then. ^_^

That's strange! It looks really familiar--perhaps I've seen a similar thing somewhere...

Honestly, seeing those eyes--upwards roll and all--appearing at times in the darkness of the mansion could be somewhat unsettling! XD;

I have promised (threatened you with) a video of different interactions. I have now added a log that collects all the player interactions (so players can send it to me for statistics or to reproduce errors) and also a debug function to show it on screen. This helps a bit to show what is happening in this video.

It's totally boring. XD
I have also forgotten some interactions that I wanted to add (e.g. use pliers on items in inventory -> "It's not stuck, I can just pull it out of my pocket" or using the key part on the door -> "I just got it out, I don't want to stick it back in.").

But... at least I can tick it off on the todo list. Smiley

That's where you're wrong, kiddo!

Also, the way the eye floats in the "game space" instead of being "pasted on the glass of the screen", so to speak (like the cursor) looks sooo good
