It's still ages away but I randomly went on the site today only to find people expressing their surprise at the fact that it's already possible to join the event and suggest themes! So here goes! Semicopypasted explanation of LD from last thread:LD is a game jam. You optionally vote for a theme in the days running up to the event, and then based on that theme or keyword you get 48 or 72 hours (plus a submission hour) to make a game! You need to go on the website, log in, and click 'join event' before it starts!
48 hours is referred to as "compo" and 72 as "jam" and they have different rules—jam is more relaxed and you're allowed to work in a team—so make sure you read the rules on the website first.
When the time is up, a couple of weeks of playing games and rating/commenting them (only people who submitted their own games can do this) commences, and if you want to get ratings/comments yourself you need to do this.
You don't win anything beyond good ratings/comments at best, but it's fun and you always grow a little bit as a developer, as does your portfolio!
Remember that you need to host your game yourself—the LD website does not provide this. The website has a guide for this. I personally recommend itch.io. Also you need to make it work at least on web or Windows (I think?) to be allowed to submit your game. Twitter hashtag: #LDJAM (even if you're doing the compo) Great blog post from an earlier LD here on considering keyboard differences between countries and so on, and more to bear in mind! Keynote:

You're not alone I did it too Yay! Looking forward to playing your games! What you guys think of the theme? I was very relieved that it wasn't a theme that was basically a repeat of a previous LD which we seemed to be running the risk of getting this time (outdated tech vs ancient tech for example), and it was pretty decent, possible to interpret both literally and less so! I noticed I was far from the only one who thought of fire tho.

I was very happy with the theme not being a repeat or too specific. a repeat of a previous LD Yeah, was worried about that but I suppose a lot of people doing LD now havn't done a lot of the previous LDs so seems like a new theme to them. Good job on your games folks.

This was my third time in the Compo. My goal was to have more gameplay this time around, I succeeded compared to my past work but I wish I could have gotten in a little more variety. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/the-acolyte EDIT: Kind of just getting back into game dev after a while too. Just saw my TIG signature and realized how long it's been. Feels good to be at it again, though. Jams are great for that, feels good to finish something.

*looks around* Seems a bit emptier in this thread then previous jams.Any way. Here is the game I made together with my spouse. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/$196951 https://jordgubben.itch.io/knyttskogenIt's a slow paced game about guarding a camp fire in the woods. The intended way of playing it is to leaving on while reading a book, doing the dishes, wattring your planta or something like that. EDIT: Apparently I'm not very adept at web-browsers and the whole reload page thing.
