The new weapon system is now available with the November update!
We'll briefly describe what is it and how to enjoy it.


Exciting gameplay from making choices

The key elements of the roguelike game are Randomness and Permanent Death.
And the fun part of gameplay comes from these two key elements.

The game ends permanently when the player dies, and that's why players must think twice to make the best choice.
This particular tension and careful choices maximize immersive gameplay as well as fun.

But not all choices are always fun.
To design the exciting choice system, we considered the following statements:

1. Players must be able to make different choices depending on the situation.
2. Each choice will result in discrete outcomes.
3. To avoid the paradox of choices, the number of choices should be limited to some extent.
4. No choices can be deferred to the next choice.
5. To limit making a choice, priorities to be considered should be created.

<So then what skill is the best choice?>


Weapon system

When making each choice during Sentimental K gameplay, it will be even more fun if the priorities to consider are clear.

We always wanted which weapon the player has to be the topmost consideration when making these choices.
To achieve this, the weapon must be the largest element that grows, and each weapon must have its own rare abilities that cannot be obtained anywhere else otherwise.

<Rare options in weapons>

This is why we implemented various rare options for each weapon.

Let's look into what this means by an example:

Before this newly added feature, it was very difficult to hit the target using dual pistols unless the player is highly skilled.
But now with Guided Bullets and Megasize Bullets rare options, the player can hit the target much more easily.
With these rare options, it is much easier to use Dual pistols spells as well!

Weapon grade

Similar to the skill system, the weapon is now divided into five distinct grades.
Higher the grade means better weapon stats and more rare weapon options.
Seek for your taste of high-grade weapons that can make synergies with equipped skills and artifacts.
The ultimate combination will lead you to victory.

Enjoy more than 35 distinct weapon options that can be earned during the gameplay!
We will continue to think about the game design in order to give more fun of making a choice during the gameplay.

In this post, we will dive into the difficulty of the game.


Rogue-like & Rogue-lite

One of the major differences between Rogue-like and Rogue-lite is whether the game directly provides advantages depending on repetitive gameplay.
In the Rogue-lite genre, a player gets stronger after repetitive deaths. But, in the Rogue-like genre, death means just permanent death. Yes, you lose all of the skills, items, and levels.

The graph below demonstrates the game difficulty (red) and the player's skill (blue) over time.

These two genres will give a very different user experience.

Each genre has its own pros and cons.
In the case of Rogue-like, the time takes to complete the game depends on each individual player's skill.

<That means that a highly skilled player has no barrier to simply finishing the game,
on the other hand, a low-skilled player may end up being unable to complete even a single stage>

However, the Rogue-lite genre lets players progress with persistent upgrades and level-ups. This allows all players to finish the game eventually.

Difficulty of Sentimental K

As you as a player may have noticed well, the genre of Sentimental K is the Rogue-like with no persistent upgrades.
Our design intention was to deliver joy and accomplish feeling coming from playing a 3D action game.

To achieve that, we had to solve many problems related to the difficulty design of the game.

In short, the game design of Sentimental K focused on two things:
1. The difficulty changes greatly depending on randomness of the game.
2. Provide a more difficult game level after finishing each run.

If the difficulty changes based on randomness, a low-skilled player can finish the game with some luck and enjoy playing a 3D action game.

To compensate for the difficulty design, Sentimental K will unlock Abyss mode with a depth of twenty difficulty levels. So a highly skilled player can also enjoy our game by going through "Hard mode".

<Abyss mode will give you infinite numbers of penalties!>

Sentimental K 1.0 official release!

Sentimental K's Early Access is over, and now it's officially released!



Sentimental K started development in May 2019,
after the Early Access release in June 2020,
finally, it is officially released on January 18, 2022.
