The only problem with a demake idea i see is copyright issues. We wouldn't want the grand prize to be a lawsuit.

True, but I wonder if there really would be any lawsuits in the end, since it's basically just fan-based and all just for the fun of it,... err right? What you could do is make parodies instead, but still completely in the de-makes spirit.

I like all these ideas, but I think demakes came first... and I'm really excited to see that one happen.
To avoid legal bullshit my idea was to make it a "Chinese Bootleg Demakes Compo," which means that no where in your game should you actually use the name of the game your demaking (or the name of the company it's made by).
Gears of War = Cogs of Conflict (by Saga)
Final Fantasy VII = Last Phantasy VII (by Triangle)
etc.!
And then, yeah, a competition where the theme is "giant naked men." Well, c'mon, this is the only place it's ever going to happen, so I think we have a moral obligation to do so.
Actually, timing-wise, maybe it'd be a good idea to run the giant naked men compo first (is December a good month for giant naked men?), since it probably requires less commitment, and then do demakes in Spring or Summer, after IGF. Thoughts? Do people want to get into another compo soon, or shall we wait?

Maybe, could work. Seems like my ideas are too... intellectual for the TIGERSauce crew. (I kid!) Just had an idea, make it a compo about putting into a game -at least 3- of these elements: - Giant Naked Man (or Men) - TIGERSauce - The true Captain Commando - The Doomerang - Derek - A kitty - A cottage... of Doom - Guert the Grinder And anymore TIGS related elements of awesomeness you guys can think of.

I actually like your idea a lot, Melly! Sorry to make it sound as though I were ignoring it... the popular vote seems to be with demakes and giant naked men, however.

I know, just teasing people. :3 Who there votes for the "add some of these elements" idea? You can all go for giant naked men if you wanna.

Ah yes, the basics of politics. You don't win votes with promises: you do it with giant naked men. Any politician who truly follow this rule gets my vote. Period.

I don't think December is a good month for giant naked men. It's probably way cold and uncomfortable for them. On the other hand: Naked men for the win.

'Chinese Bootleg Demakes Compo' sounds awesome, haha. But I also have an idea or two for the giant naked men theme. So I'm happy with either of these. As for the 'choose your elements', I don't think that would be all that great. I'd much prefer to see how much variation everyone can come up with under one set theme. I like the 'Abstract Real Life' idea, but I think the rule-set would need to be a bit more basic. Maybe scrap the word abstract altogether. A contest with real-life themes, or incorporating aspects inspired from real life. Being subtle about it or not shouldn't really be an adgenda, in my opinion! It is end-of-year holidays for me coming this friday, so a competition of any kind would be awesome.

I wanted to do it that way because I'm personally bored to death with simulation games, and if you don't take the time to be creative with a real life theme that's usually what you'll get. If I see a contest with 10 half-baked versions of The Sims I'll scream.

Oh man. I have a radical idea.
A contest to make: a surreal simulation game The MAIN rules would be that it has to be like ANY type of sim game, from the tycoon games, to cooking, to raising a baby chimpanzee in war torn Africa. However, it must have two things, which are kind of related: 1. Something central to the game being really surreal and weird, like the goal is to raise a baby maggotman in war torn Africa, and to accomplish this you need to milk Zeus to get the it food. 2. Either a minimum of one giant naked man, or a minimum of three offhand metaphors for impotence. CHOOSE YOUR METHOD OF DEMISE!

..."Chinese Bootleg Demakes Compo,"...
Gears of War = Cogs of Conflict (by Saga)
Final Fantasy VII = Last Phantasy VII (by Triangle)
Generally I think that any contest idea that can be summed up in <=5 words will attract the most interest.

I'm thinking GNM as a one month compo that starts in December, and Chinese Bootleg Demakes as a longer compo (2-3 months) that starts after IGF and ends in the beginning of summer. GNM seems a little less intensive and good for the holidays. And I'd like more time to prep for the Demakes Compo, too. How does that sound to people?

I guess that's good.
You guys want giant naked men? Alright then, I'll have so much nakedness, giantness and manlyness in my game you'll all turn ghey instantly just by TOUCHING it.

OMG! Giant Naked Men! Sweetness I also put in my vote for the "Chinese Bootleg Demakes Compo" that idea rocks my socks off... Someone totally needs to make that Shadow of the Colossus demake that Derek was talking about awhile ago... Holy hell... I'd love to see a 2d Shadow of the Colossus platformer.

But then it can't be called Shadow of the Colossus. It'd be called Shade of the Giant... Naked Man.
