NEW STUFF: ORIGINAL: The Guy: Some lighting and some movement: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCwTSaYhAToReally itching to hear feedback, what works/doesn't work so far! Also feel free to follow my Twitter @TwistingYarn for more. My goal is to create a game that feels like a natural progression in the PM series of 64 -> TTYD -> ??. I've seen several other games inspired by this series and with similar goals, but none that I know of have taken the leap to full 3D characters; I see tons of potential in this style so here I am.

The stuff you've been waiting for, concept art of a character you don't recognize. I will post more actual gameplay soon.

This is neat! I'm not super into Paper Mario for the battles, but I do like the story progression and general feel of TTYD enough to have played/copiloted it more than once, so this is interesting to me. I just found out about Bug Fables, so it's cool to see a bunch of PM-styled indie games cropping up! The graphics are great too. The GIF almost looks like a bunch of fridge magnets, love it. Obviously almost verbatim the same as in PM, down to the Mario-looking character, so I'm curious to know if you're not interested in making it more your own? I get it if you just want to scratch the PM fan itch tho!

Thanks Prinsessa! I agree, the general feel of TTYD is something special. I don't know if I'll be able to truly re-capture it, but it has certainly inspired me! You asked a very good question! Would I like to make it more unique? YES. I'm trying to move forward more so on the programming end of things because I think code quality preserves better than my opinion of my own art. I could spend a week designing a character and want to completely re-design it in 6 months, but a stable back-end will always be stable (... mostly).

felt inspired to do something new.. so here is an enemy WIP: an egg-in-a-bowl person. it will give me an excuse to implement a few more new systems in combat with the type of attacks I intend to give him!

Fridge magnets are the best comparison point, yeah. It's interesting how the character is flat but not flat at all at the same time
Also a big Paper Mario fan, so really curious to see where this will end up!

I agree on the fridge magnet comparison. i'm interested in adding some more organic deformation to the animation in the future, so we will see how that goes

Anyone else think of a really, really determined baby who will be thwarted by their parent at the last second whenever they see the egg dude?

We all know the problem of hyper-polishing one tiny detail. Result looks great though!

have some new things to show off with enemy attacks and state changes: probably going to spend some time on behind-the-scenes stuff now, so if you've been following and have any comments/suggestions/whatever now is good time to share!

did some behind the scenes stuff to prepare for sound FX and music (nothing good to actually show on that front yet.) started working on a new character: dragon tried without the outline mesh, im still figuring out how I feel. it has an interesting feel. note that lighting is different in these pics, so they don't show a perfect one-to-one comparison.
