Still working on this mockup.

Player = Flame thrower guy, the resolution of the "mockup" isn't the actual game's resolution mind you..
The guy being eatten by zombies is not supposed to be green, he should be enemy human color like blue or red shirt.

this is game res

Everything is too unreadable and the playing space itself is too tiny.

Yea, I know the playing field is too small, I'm not the programmer of this project.
Was just a quick mock-up of the tiles, the programmer took it upon himself in replicating my mockup.

Nothing really concrete here, the levels were tiny to beta test pit falling which all works.
I'm not noticing too many read ability issues in-game.
The crates and stuff have been altered.

I figured the dither and tile pattern'd floor was a bit overkill though.

Sit down and relax,
Keeping focus on your breath,
This may take a while.

That looks awesome; great color choice and beautiful style, especially given how few pixels you used.

Greg, that is awesome! The colors and the designs are incredible, keep with it!

I'm not sure about this, some colors have different saturations, making it looks like a lot of styles are mixed haha. I think your version 2 looked more coherent.

But it was kinda dark and hard to read, this is more light and clearer. I'm still working on it though.

Edit:

I've no idea what to do next...

try desaturating the image to greyscale and then see how easy you think it is to read.

I find the player is a bit lost against itself. Boosting the contrast can help (i.e. makes the flesh stand out better from the clothing) but then you will need to jiggle with your colours a bit to fix the damage that upping contrast does...
