PEPPERED
A lighthearted 2D platformer about the meaningless of existence.

ELEVATOR PITCH
A simple, heavily narrative driven platformer, that subverts tropes for the sake of making people depressed.

SYNOPSIS
It's the 100th anniversary Immortality Day. Today is the day we will become permanently immortal. Today, Mr.Theodore will bring his 100th magic star. And kill the God of Death. Hold your breath. And welcome the hero of the evening (and every other waking moment)! The conquerer of our ruthless dictator — THEODORE GLAGOLEV!

...

W-Where is he..? What do you mean you "I dunno", this is not a jo(the broadcast gets interrupted).

---------------

You play as a nameless protagonist, getting job interviewed at the place that stores those magic stars. You're an hour away from a disasterous return of an almighty evil and no one is doing a thing to stop it. Some folks are scared. Some say it's none of their business. And some think, that an unstoppable murder God would be really good for the economy.

And IF you decide to put the matter into your own hands, you'll steal the star and will go on journey to stop the God of Death yourself. The results of this decision will have various degrees of failure.

GAMEPLAY
It's quite a minimalistic platformer. With a few minigames thrown here and there. No complicated stats or intricate fighting mechanics. No RPG elements or online multiplayer. Only smooth and tight movement. And an interactive story.
— Characters remember what you do and say to them (which affects their arcs and relationship with you).
— Consequences to your choices and actions that affect the plot.
— Tropes subversion (100% completion, saving the world by jumping on things, happy ending, the big bad, etc. etc.)
— A lot of endings.

DEVELOPER
Hi. My name is Vasiliy Most. I majored in film directing, spent years learning screenwriting. And some time ago I 100% completed "Super Mario 3D world", which inspired me to say "F#[email protected] you" to the entire platforming genre by creating another platformer game.

I work on this game with my wife Natasha "Nararcher" Gordeeva, who kindly draws it, while I animate, write, program and direct it. It's a silly project and we pour as much love as we can in it.

OKAY, THAT'S COOL AND ALL BUT CAN I PLAY IT?
Not yet! But soon (in a month or so) I will publish a mini-demo. It'll have an opening scene with couple of alternative endings and everything up to the conflict with a first major character. So stay tuned! In the meantime you can check out my recent devblog video! I forced myself to work 24 hours straight in it! Much love, stay safe.

LITTLE UPDATE
So I've been working on a boss battle and a scene where you encounter a first major character — the last, soon to be abolished,
Police officer of the Immortal world. For the act of stealing the star, this officer will chase you thought out the entire first act of the game.

The progress is going along nicely, the core loop of this battle is almost done.
Next up — dialogue, new cutscenes etc. Also, I've decided to tell a little bit more about the setting and a backstory of the game.

BACKSTORY AND SETTING
Far away from Earth, on a distant planet, there is an island inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. For the longest time, these creatures lived under the oppression of their dictator - the God of death. Until one day, a human appeared and challenged the deity. His name was Theodore Glagolev. Using magical stars, he neutralized the God of death. And trapped him in prison. The creatures celebrated their freedom and welcomed a new age, where everyone became immortal. Since then, each year, Theodore performs a magic ritual that prolongs the imprisonment of the God of death.  But on 100th anniversary of immortality, right before another ritual, Theodore disappears.

The world you'll be playing in is sorta feels like ours. But filtered through the idea "But what if it all was a platformer?". People run away from their quiet homes back on tinder dates. They stub their toes and complain how it's all their dad's fault. They pay rent and hug their friends. You know — normal real life stuff. But there's also death traps and bottomless pits everywhere.

Dying and respawning is an everyday thing. Checkpoints are bus stops. And time doesn't "rewind" when you respawn in game. Consequences are permanent.

With all these death traps around and dimmed survival instincts, it would be real shame if people became mortal again.

PUZZLE TIME!
What's better then filling out documents? A puzzle about it."Apology letter for uniformed leave".
Even though you're not an employee of a place you're leaving.

Happy holidays, everybody. Been working on this goofy puzzle lately. Getting closer to realise of a demo!

SO ANYWAY.

Jesus, I haven't posted here for quite a while! A lot of stuff happened during that time (if anybody cares). I made a demo! It has dumb puzzles, boss fights, two alternative endings, tons of jokes, and charming characters!

Unfortunately, I cannot post this demo right now because I'm in the middle of preparing for the Kickstarter. It is unclear when is the perfect time to post the demo (which ideally should promote the Kickstarter). But what is clear is that I should build a community before launching anything. So if you are interested in: narrative-driven games, dark humor, and bizarre indie games, then I would be grateful if you can give the game a follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/PepperedGame You can expect behind-the-scenes stuff, dumb jokes, progress, and information about the upcoming Kickstarter! Also much more frequent updates than here. For reasons.

Thank you so much; it's very flattering! Trust me when I say that I really-really-REALLY want to publish the demo — very excited about it.

But I must ensure that the Kickstarter campaign succeeds. Otherwise, I won't be able to make the full game. So I will publish the demo much closer to the campaign so that the hype (if there will be one) doesn't die out before the Kickstarter starts.

Hang tight and stay tuned!

Hello again! Not a significant update, just wanted to share a track written for the game by Fedya Balashov. It does sorta captures in-game atmosphere. I think.  Blink Blink

A couple of YouTubers have picked up an exclusive demo and made let's plays about it! Currently, it's the only way to see the game in action, so please have yourself a look at videos from ManlyBadassHero or AlphaBetaGamer!
(And follow us at @PepperedGame for more info on development, public demo and more)
