I am an audio researcher developing new audiovisual technologies and currently interested in new applications for games, especially in areas of VR arcades, large immersive spaces, 360 degree installations and even escape rooms.

I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to get 32 independent channels (or more) of audio output in real-time from a game engine like Unity that can be spatially mapped to XY coordinates of virtual objects in a screen, or the XYZ coordinates for a spatial enclosure, when most game engines only allow for fixed pre-defined output formats such as stereo, 5.1 or 7.1.

Hey Claude,

Are you in the Game Audio Slack Channel?

If not I'd suggest finding Matt Marteinson (@mattesque) on Twitter and asking for an invite.
There's lots of folks there who are audio programmers/tech sound designers with lots of experience who might be able to help you. I'd recommend looking into Wwise (https://www.audiokinetic.com/discover/wwise-in-vr/) and possible FMOD but I imagine this is more likely to be possible in Wwise than FMOD and more likely in Unreal than Unity.

There's a guy who's quite active in that slack channel who works as a tech sound designer at Epic so he would likely know if this is possible in Unreal Smiley

Those are my rambling thoughts, hope that helps a bit!

Heads up, this thread is a copied and pasted forum post from 2 years ago. User has been preemptively banned before they can edit in their spam links. There isn't a human here to talk to.
