The Premise

Incredible Punch stars a person with a giant left hand named The Puncher who gets his latest copy of the popular "Gaming Interact" magazine stolen by a delinquent triangle named Riad.

Puncher must scale a building housing many other troublemakers out to protect their leader and punch each single one out of his way.

The Puncher VS. Riad

The Gameplay

Top-down and sort of similar to a beat-em-up? It is currently not yet a solid design and I hope to do fun things with this once implemented.

Puncher is capable of simple punches that knock out enemies and take health off tougher ones.

By holding down the assigned punch button, Puncher charges up a Super-Punch that sends him flying across a direction until hitting an enemy or wall. Despite its power, it can lead to possible death if the enemy is spiked or the floor next to the wall is a hole. It can act as a way to travel faster when it's safe to.

The Artstyle

The game mixes Pre-Rendered 90's-esque CG and Pixel Art and is set in a 320x180 window.

Palettes vary for some promotional assets like the ones shown but I have mainly stuck to Adigun A. Polack's as I find them nice.

3D assets are all created using Blender 2.92 and rendered with Cycles to low-resolution assets alongside extra compositing adding outlines to them. This helps achieve a look similar to Playstation-era 2D games with such assets.

The Tools

The game utilizes the C99-based 2D game engine Astera (https://github.com/tek256/astera). I will also create a simple map creator for the levels.

The State

It's ok. Currently I have a moving Puncher on a space filled with tiles and a CRT filter as well. I may replace that in the future but for now it's nice.

I will! On the game side I had sorta implemented the main mechanic of punching. Currently it just adds extra force to your movement and sets a 1 second cooldown.

Video showing it in action

I also made a promotional art for the game when I revealed to be working on it on my twitter.

More models and work soon! The next thing I'll work on is a little tool to make maps with so I can prototype something up nice. Then later I'll give it a visual interface.
