So my story is this:
In recent years every conceivable game form my childhood has come back in some shape! It's awesome! But for some reason, even though I have patiently waited for decades, noone will try to make my literal favorite childhood game. Well enough then, I will attempt it myself.
There was a time when Zelda was a template for a whole genre of games: The japanese Action RPG. Like Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Terranigma, Knights of Centy, Story of Thor... And my personal favorite Landstalker, as well as its spiritual successor Alundra. Both games combine an addictive set of gameplay elements: Platforming, Puzzle Solving and Action RPG. A golden formula in my book. Then it stopped and aside from the rare Indie-exception, I haven't really gotten exactly what I want!

I have been working on this for about three months now and finally reached a stage where I can share some progress:

My declared design goal is to AVOID innovation at any cost. I want to make a classic oldschool type game with a handcrafted quality and well established game elements and at the same time not make it compeletely redundant by the template games I want to emulate. That will be my challenge.

Landstalker is my alltime favorite game. I replayed it not too long ago and I think it is still great! Often thought about how cool it would be to create something like that... but it is quite a project...
Very cool that you already have so much to show! But what's really missing from your video: the chickens... each town had its chicken, some had even many chickens... some were lazy and some were really fast... If it features chickens I will buy it (for a reasonable price)... Smiley
But seriously - good luck and lots of fun! Looking forward to updates (especially screenshots) Smiley

I released some new footage of the game. Even though I haven't had the time to put out any devlogs, I have been making steady prgress!

Man I wish I could do more Devlogs, but for now all my energy goes towards the game!
I'm in the process of getting another dungeon finished, which means I'm sitting at two done and 3 half-done.
Oh well, getting there.

I really like the graphical style: lighting, smooth animations and the fire effect. A unique middle ground between realistic and stylized.

Haha, it feels great to up the percentage bar...
I'm progressing quite smoothly, but very sad I don't have the energy to make videologs.
Regardless, here's some new progress, with music this time:
