Call for Production & Business Manager

We’re a small narrative-focused studio based in Montreal, QC committed to accessibility and helping players experience important stories. We have a background in producing award-winning immersive theatre and transitioned into games full time in the last year. While this is our first major game, our background gives us unique insights into designing distinct player experiences and leading creative teams to the completion of critically and commercially successful art. Since jumping in with both feet, we have grown as a team and are working on a vertical slice for our first major game, Radio.play. It has already gained accolades as a finalist in both the Ubisoft Indie Series and the Eidos Sherbrooke Innovation Program.

Radio.play is a voyeuristic excursion where you infiltrate the thoughts of deep, flawed, human characters and shape their responses to a web of complex real-world situations.

We are looking for a Production Manager who is interested in growing with the studio. You would be joining as the sixth member of our core team and would primarily be responsible for helping everyone stay organized, collaborating to refine our existing workflow and keeping an eye on the big picture so we can avoid crunch. We prioritize empathy and kindness in the workplace, sustainability is more important to us than short-term productivity.

We’re a small indie team and everyone wears a few different hats. We have more experience with Arts funding than business but have been pitching, applying,  and working hard to improve our knowledge. An ideal candidate would collaborate with us to fill in the gaps in our business experience and be an extra set of eyes and ears looking for new opportunities.

We want Shedbuilder to be a place where everyone is treated well, has the freedom to do work they love for a good wage, and can find new opportunities with the company as we grow.

The job entails:

Understanding the ins and outs of our game

Helping us find ways to improve the day to day running of the studio

Handling production scheduling

Designing and managing production workflows with the team

Manage contractors, job applications and logistics

Help determine tasks and task priority based off scheduling

Creating first drafts of documents to be reviewed by the founders

Facilitate communication and weekly production planning between team members/create and manage task tracking sheets

Help identify pain points in the production pipeline

Maintaining asset management throughout the entirety of the project

Help us develop pitches, pitch, liaise with financiers and publishers and attend events

We’re looking for:

A system-driven person, you want to create order out of chaos and enjoy doing it

Strong communication skills and empathy – this is something we want from all our team members

Comfortable in giving and receiving direction

Someone experienced in games production but will also consider film, animation and software production experiences

Someone who fits in well with our collaborative, creative culture

Excellent time management and organisational skills

Someone with experience with a management tool, ours is ClickUp, or help us transition to a new tool you prefer

Someone who can legally work in Canada, and ideally resides in Quebec

It would be especially good if:

You’ve shipped a narrative game

Remote team management experience is a plus

Familiarity with Agile/Scrum or similar methodology applied specifically to game dev is a plus

French language skills would be a real asset.

This position suggests fully remote work, largely to your preferred schedule, full-time or part-time with a plan to transition to full time.

This position is contingent on us receiving CMF funding so would begin mid July once we have confirmed it. This would be over a 12 month production period, with the option to renew.

We have a horizontal pay structure and we will all take the same salary of $4500 CAD a month. If you were to begin in a  part-time fashion, hourly compensation would be prorated to that amount.

We welcome applications from those who don't necessarily meet every requirement, and we especially encourage those from underrepresented backgrounds. You would be joining a gender diverse team, of diverse cultural backgrounds.
