Hi everyone, I'm a London-based solo dev making my dream space RPG! (You can check out my intro post for more about me.) The game is still at a very early stage, and I'm looking for as much feedback as possible as the game develops. Here's some more about the game:

Relic Space is an open-world, roguelike, space RPG in which you help rebuild civilisation (following a galactic catastrophe) by completing a mix of handcrafted and procedurally generated missions for your faction.

You play an elite starship pilot, and the core of the game involves deeply-simulated, turn-based (and hex-based) ship-to-ship combat with a fluid, modern feel.

Here are some other key features:

  • Real Space: Movement rules based on actual space physics: motion in a straight line is free, but turning, starting or stopping cost energy.

  • Deep Simulation: Realistic combat mechanics simulate damage to individual ship components. Each weapon, engine or utility item can catch fire, leak power, and acquire many more status effects.

  • Open World: Explore a vast procedurally generated solar system with handcrafted elements. Factions and NPCs pursue research, trade, construction projects, and other goals irrespective of your actions – though your actions affect their success or failure!

  • Flexible development: Use your growing reputation and influence to acquire more powerful ships and equip them with countless weapon and utility combinations. Acquire new piloting abilities through a flexible skill tree.

  • Immersive setting: Uncover a rich, branching narrative threaded with endless procedurally generated stories in a detailed setting inspired by hard sci-fi.

How to access the game and give feedback

Here are download links to the current Alpha version. This is a time limited test, so the links will only work for 4 more days.

Windows: https://we.tl/t-xIhSEQeu6P
Linux: https://we.tl/t-k3QtLoeoWY

The game itself includes a feedback form which can be accessed at any time by pressing F12. Please use that to provide feedback, or provide feedback in this thread if you prefer.

At this stage I am particularly interested in general feedback about whether the game is fun and which game mechanics work/don't work, though of course bug reports are useful too.

As mentioned the game is still at a very early stage: it is fully playable but very limited in terms of content. There only 5 ship types, 6 skills, 8 weapon types, 3 base mission types and 8 research goals for example.

If you are interested you can also join the Discord to participate in discussion of the Alpha or sign up to the Newsletter to be notified of future Alpha builds.

There's also a Twitter account, and please wishlist the game on Steam if you like the look of it!

Hey, sorry it seems I didn't see this earlier - thanks so much for the playthrough, positive feedback can be just as useful as negative feedback, so it was much appreciated!

NEW ALPHA AVAILABLE

Hi everyone, I'm excited to announce there's a new playable Alpha available! Though it's still only an Alpha, it's the biggest update yet in terms of sheer number of changes, and the focus is on bringing out the tactical depth to the game from the start.

There's a complete overhaul of 'Pilot Skills' systems, with 7 brand new skills and 3 'trait' skills providing interesting tactical choices right from the start of the game.

The combat UI has also been redesigned, with more scope to drill down and understand the connections between weapons range, to hit chance, damage, different damage types and equipment damage.

In addition, there’s a brand new original soundtrack, and the tutorial has also been augmented in various ways, and extended to cover the first Relic mission, to introduce players to the relic/research mechanics. There are also a host of smaller graphical improvements and bug fixes that should make for a smoother, more playable experience.

A full changelog can be reviewed here: https://www.fourfoldgames.com/devblog or within the build itself.

Here are download links to the current Alpha version. This is a time limited test, so the links will only work for 5 more days.

Linux: https://we.tl/t-GcullZjPTO

As before, the game itself includes a feedback form which can be accessed at any time by pressing F12. Please use that to provide feedback, or provide feedback in this thread if you prefer. And do feel free to join the Discord to be part of the Relic Space community longer term.
