After the success of Tangledeep in 2018 (which started on these very forums!) we set to work on our next project -
Flowstone Saga. This JRPG-inspired adventure will feature an epic story, charming characters, stunning pixel art, and a unique puzzle-battle system, set in the mysterious Ocean's End islands full of ancient ruins, pirates, treasures, and frogs.
Last year, we started a campaign for the game under the name Puzzle Explorers, but we learned through player feedback that people really wanted
more RPG from this title.
So, we spent 6 months and thousands of hours revamping the game in just about every conceivable way. Revamped story, new visual style, new name, and tons of polish. If you played the game back then,
you are in for a real treat.
Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zircon/flowstone-saga-a-charming-jrpg-inspired-16-bit-adventure/Trailer: Here's the setting:
In the sleepy backwaters of
Ocean's End, a young adventurer and her stalwart pet Sprig stumble on an ancient power hidden beneath long-forgotten ruins. With it, Mirai can harness the power to repair, build, and... fight.
A grand story will unfold: Mirai will use these new powers to help build her home of
New Riverstone, face growing threats like the
Scarlet Tusk Pirates, hunt for
treasure across mountains, forests, temples, and ruins, and forge
new friendships with people (and animals) across the world. Perhaps, the secrets of her past will finally be revealed as well...
It's inspired by both
classic JRPGs, with its story, presentation, and 'active time battle' elements, as well as block puzzle games. We've included a variety of difficulty settings too, so if you want more frantic and challenging puzzles, you can do that; or if you prefer to focus on the story & RPG gameplay, you can do that too.
With the
Flowstone Saga Kickstarter, we're raising money to increase the polish of the game: more art, more animations, more music. With an RPG like this, the sky is the limit when it comes to how slick & smooth things can be.
We've already spent a ton of time and money on this ourselves, which we hope is reflected in the playable alpha on the Kickstarter page. Plus, we already have the resources to finish the
core game in 2022 for PC, OSX, Linux, and Nintendo Switch.
If you like what you see, please take a minute to check out the Kickstarter and consider supporting it! Even if you can't afford to back the project, spreading the word via social media (or Discord, Reddit, and forums) is just as helpful. We really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your support, and we hope you'll enjoy playing
the Flowstone Saga alpha!
