Hi Grim604,
The level select works for me now, I can boot up levels properly, and the menu looks a lot better too!
Some small things that I noticed. The attack sound effects for the player could use some variation, and could probably sound more 'meaty'. Also, when the player gets hit there could be more of a visual effect besides just the health bar depleting to emphasise the action.
Another thing I noticed was that it looks a bit odd being able to run off the arena and into total blackness. Maybe increase the size of the arena, or adjust the limits to how far the player can travel?
Gameplay wise, there was a real difficulty spike on level two, specifically when the extra enemies spawn in. Maybe this was deliberate?
One more thing, are you thinking of adding music? It would feel way more intense with a good soundtrack!
Hope some of this helps!
Hi Piaworthy, thanks for the feedback. The attack sounds should definitely be more satisfying, and music is a must. Though sound design isn't a main focus right now, it will be soon.
Regarding difficulty: its been smoothed out to a much more reasonable pace now. There's still some difficulty hikes in there but the previous version you played was for sure too drastic.
Hey Grim604,
I played your game and recorded my thoughts:
Hey JBarrios, thanks for the video, super helpful! Love how you voice out your thoughts while you play. I noticed the difficulty curve in your playthrough was super drastic, like Piaworthy also mentioned. It's been smoothed out now.
About your suggestion to possibly reduce total health, I'm not sure it would work well later into the game. As you progress through, the encounters will ramp up to be quite chaotic and messy with many enemies on the board. I think lower health may make the game too challenging, even if all enemy attacks were telegraphed very distinctly. Ideally, I'd like health to be treated like a resource, where you can let yourself get hit a few times in exchange for getting some damage in on enemies. Then you heal yourself using your abilities which you've recharged by dealing damage.
At 9:05 you said something is frustrating but your mic cuts out, could you let me know what you were saying?
