        SMB Question

 SMB Mario
SMB BrickSMB BrickSMB BrickSMB BrickSMB Brick
Hello everyone, time to have some fun!

Wait, you dont know what Mockup frenzy is?? I bring quotes with information to answer that very question!
Quote from: Pixelation
So, every two weeks, we'll put up a new set of guidelines for mockups, including but not limited to:

1 - Size
2 - Palette/Color Limits/Platform
3 - Subject Matter/Play Style

After 2 weeks, all the submissions will be gathered into the first post of the thread for easy viewing, and a new set of guidelines will be posted in a new thread.  There is no voting, no winners, no competition except how great a job can YOU do.  Members will be welcome to submit entries after the 2 week deadline, but there could be massive delays in when those entries are rolled back into the first post collection of submissions.

Finally, please only submit NEW works to the Mockup Frenzy.  New works means ideas you started pixeling after the start date.  I think that's about it!  If we think of any more "rules" we'll be sure to add them.  Otherwise, have fun pixeling!

In this thread we can post theme suggestions.

Oh, and also:
INOFFICIAL FIRST TIGer MOCKUP FRENZY THEME!?:
TIGers are awesome. In fact, they're so awesome that the theme is to make a mockup that has something to do with tigers for the gameboy advance!

Size: 240 × 160
Platform: GBA ( = hardly no limitations )
Subject matter: Tiger themed.
Deadline: Friday the 24th of July

I will of course update the pictures in the first post if you post newer versions/entries in the thread.

This is going to be great! Starting right now.

Oh, and it's not that big of a deal but the GBA was limited to 16bit colors.

I use 8bits when I paint casually in photoshop. If people use 32bits they're extremely disqualified  Corny Laugh

gba was 32 bit, meaning it used 15 colours plus transparency.

Hmm, yeah, 15bpp color + alpha. I think the 32-bit part was regarding its CPU, which has nothing to do with its graphics processing, but I dunno for sure. We really need someone to give the definitive restrictions. I'm sure they were posted on Pixelation before.

I think I might participate in this. I suck at drawing animals like Tigers, so this might be interesting. I think I have a few ways around that though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monochrome_and_RGB_palettes#15-bit_RGB
This is what the gameboy advance uses.

I figured the first Mockup frenzy would have very few restrictions, and gradually use fewer colours in later editions. I didn't want to exclude anyone who'd want to use more colours, which is why I chose the GBA, it's very forgiving. Smiley

Edit: on wikipedia it also says: capable of displaying 512 simultaneous colors in "character mode" and 32,768 (215) simultaneous colors in "bitmap mode"
But I'm not familiar with creating graphics for the GBA, if anyone would like to share their knowledge it'd be great  Smiley

GBA used 8x8 tiles with X and Y flipping and I think maybe 4 or 8 (maybe 16?) different 16-color palettes in its main game mode, with a variety of sprite sizes from 8x8 up to 32x16 iirc with just as many different palettes?

May I suggest the name of this challenge being, 'Eye of the TIGer'?

I got some nice suggestions, and I'd love to help organize too. I had a lot of experience with stuff like this in my animator days, I organized animation competitions and collaborations.

Just names, no limitations.

Red vs. Blue
(have to choose to make a mockup with only red, or only blue.)

Art Style (based on art pieces)

Magical Mockups (mockups themed around MAGIC!)
(Magical and Robo could be done at the same time! To encourage mixes, and offset the kinda bland theme.)
Robo-Mockup (Mockups themed around robots!)

WORD! (Theme your piece around one word. Don't be boring, and make it kind of unique, not just the word 'fire'. )

Chronological, Dude
(Theme the piece around time, or time travel.)

Blast to the Past
(Choose limitations from a console back in the 80s! And make a piece celebrating the past!)

Tall Tales (Make a mockup from a legend or tale, but you have to use 'tall' pixels [double the height]!

Mimi-ckups!
(Mimic the style of another pixel artist, indie or not!)

Iso-Mock-tric (Make an isometric piece!)

Tactical Advantage
(Make a strategy game mockup, for the GBA!)

Alienated (Make a piece themed around aliens!)

Start Your Engines
(Make a racing game!)

Roundworld (Make a mockup where the screen is a circle!)

Mock-Off
(Make a knock-off of an existing game!)

Meet the Meat
(Make a mockup themed around food.)

Mockups, Destroyers of Worlds! (Make a mock-up where a world is being destroyed, or IS destroyed!)

Animation Jubilation!
(Make a mockup featuring animation of any sorts! 4 frame minimum!)

Blood and Noir
(Make a mockup, themed around Noir, completely monochrome, except for one color: red.)

All the World is a Stage...
(Make a mockup themed around a play, specific or no.)

Results Are In!
(Make a results screen mockup.)

TV Mockups
(Make a mockup themed around TV.)

The World is Slime (Make a mockup involving or themed around slime, goo, etc...)

Riddle Me This!
(Make a puzzle game mockup.)

Adventurous
(Make an adventure game mockup.)

Revenge of the Mockup
(Make a mockup of a sequel to a game that doesn't exist.)

Gotta Mock 'Em All (Make a monster collection game mockup.)

Necromockups (Make a game themed around the DEAD!)

Comockups (Make a mockup involving or themed around comics!)

Mockup Man, Away!
(Make a superhero themed mockup!)

And that's it for my ideas... FOR NOW! Muahahaha!

First off, "inofficial" isn't a word. That would be "unofficial" Smiley

Secondly, WOO! This will be fun. I've never done a mockup before, but I'll definitely take part.
