Hi,

I am a coder by trade and a newbie artist. I can create some of my game assets myself others I have to hire someone to make it.

1. Have you used contract artists in the past for your game assets? What was your experience?

2. How do you brief the artists? Do you have a template, where I can learn from?

Appreciate your replies!

Give them as much information as you can to make the process smooth for both of you.

Have you chosen an art style?
Do you have an asset list?
Are there specific initiations e.g. polycount or resolution each asset must be within?
How long do they have to produce these assets?
Will revisions be required?

If I am looking to contract someone I'll have an example asset or a mood board to show them what I want.
Pinterest is good for this as you can just add images and then share the link but it lacks annotations to describe what it is you want the artist to take from each image.
