SO CUTE! I love the aesthetic a lot, especially the little folded cardboard creatures. The little toothpick umbrellas are a lovely touch for imitating parasols on a beach. It reminds me of when I would create dollhouse furniture out of household items, like 'ceramic' bowls made from cut up ends of egg cartons. You've got something great going on here. Smiley

I love that wobbling walk. It’s a neat visual detail to base the style on. Actually, somehow it’s even more distinguishable without a sound in the gif-images.

Thank you! The walk really started it all, that was the first thing I did Smiley Glad that it's selling the gifs as well :D

So a lot of work went into the trailer because I was a part of Wholesome Direct, so it felt natural to make a video like this! I hope you enjoy it Smiley Now that the announcement is over I can't wait to get back into making some progress again.

That was a cool devlog, it is great to hear Wholesome Direct was a success for you. Paper Klay really fits the the theme. And rest assured that you did not fake your trailer, you just selected wisely Wink

Goal For The Next 3 Weeks
So I've set a personal deadline for my vacation where I want to have some type of demo. I have a list of things that need to be fixed and added for it to feel like a real thing. So let's hope things go as planned (as they always do...). So I finished the first draft of the demo level where you run around and just grab eggs but it didn't really feel fun so I might go with a linear experience but with open areas here and there to still encourage the exploration. But for now I've tried to improve ideas/rules when decorating.

Decoration Rules
Since I'm a solo developer I need to find ways to work smart and effective. Sometimes it's hard to spend time on testing and research while you know there's a deadline ahead. Today was one of those days where I wanted to decorate the starting area, I didn't get as far as I wanted but I came up with some good rules. I should avoid having too many flat walls, add layers of materials on them to create patterns. The edges also made some improvements and what I'm using is splines, once I got used to it my workflow increased a lot. Some of them could also be saved as prefabs to further speed up my process.

Another thing I played around with is having trails that also are being pushed down as you run on it. It's nothing new really for PaperKlay but I got it working with splines so I can now make pretty paths for you to run on. I think the small trails are cute.

Improved Player Movement
I've played a lot of 3D platformers from the recent years (and in my youth). Something that I really like is variation in animations because it makes the character feel alive, but some games have these triple jumps where you press jump right when you land and if you do that three times in a row you're rewarded with a higher jump. This move might be more for experienced players so won't be necessary in order to complete the game. Still cool though.

This was the progress from my weekend, it was less progress but I guess I've started building a foundation and experience for the future.

I really like how the path gets squeezed a bit when you walk on it, that's a great little detail!

Thank you :D I love that detail as well!

I just wanted to share this small update about how PaperKlay got a facelift! Really happy with how it looks and how much more readable it is.

Oh, I love those tools for generating/shaping geometry. Those are always fun to make and use Smiley Continued impressive rate of progress in this thread. And yeah, the graphical changes made a big difference! I did like how the cylinder faded into the void in the old one tho.

So I hit the deadline! :D I bought a new laptop so I'm trying to set it up properly now. But I have a new devlog that goes through the demo and what I did in order to finish it in time. I also moved into the woods now so I'm showing that as well in the video  Smiley

Great vlog as always, and I like the inclusion of the personal bits about your new home. I applaud you for going off the grid, always wanted to, but not sure I'll ever be quite brave enough to fully disconnect like that. Keep the great content coming!

Thank you so much! Yeah I quite enjoy it because then it's not always about the game but also the developer. Hopefully get to know them Smiley
It was still a big step to move out here, but I didn't want to be there in 10 years and regret trying this.

I love that kind of devlog where you also get to know the developer such as yourself. I think it is just the greatest thing that you decided to move off-grid. The concept of an Earth Ship is just amazing, never heard of it before!
