Maybe if you tweaked the stars to be more humanoid, the pleasure would be amplified.

There are different kinds of torture, and the little candy people look like a potential source of meat or something, but when you can see them as actual characters/people, then there would be sufficient depth to think of them as something other than disposable pieces of garbage.

It's not a negative. It only pisses off people on Reddit. That vertical video, those rounded buttons that are large enough for thumbs. It's not really "PC", but neither is the UI in my game.

To do a short on youtube you have to do either square or vertical video, shorts usually do better for me. I'll think about making the buttons smaller, but I like big buttons and I cannot lie.

I don't know what YouTube does these days. Feels like Google trying to claw back some of the market from video apps with low attention spans. That's why mobile is big, and in that way there seems to be an inverse correlation between button size and game complexity. An RTS will cram the screen so full of buttons you have to read a manual before you can do anything, and I've seen mobas and gacha games with the same thing going on, even on mobile.

More buttons, smaller buttons, squarer buttons, more visual chaos seems to be what people like.

I'm more of a tactile physical UI kind of guy



But yeah, making the UI simple is a personal goal rather than cluttering up the interface with visual pain.

Edit: all the social media services are trying to be tiktok now because kids can only watch 10 seconds of a video before chasing the next one like a cat on a laser pointer.

I feel like I'm leading the discussion way off the rails, but I feel like this is a broader reflection on humanity. I can't use Discord because there's too much visual shit going on. Meta and Epic both have the same irritating low-IQ mode of marketing their products. It's nice to have that stimulation up to the point where it distracts from what the user is trying to do.

As part of my discussion in this thread I discussed the pain of having a ketchup bottle not work correctly, so I'm willing to discuss broader human themes.

I like absolute clarity and focus when I'm working with a UI. When its going right, you shouldn't be thinking about it imo. The goal of Xanadu is to create a world without pain. One of my biggest frustrations is dealing with so many poorly designed UIs in all the products I have to interact with.

Also as part of Xanadu we are launching our own network/publishing platform which also has a UI, I can get you a key if you want.
