Randy & Manilla is a game where is discovered a mysterious quantum cyber-universe hosted by Net-Cubes that contain virtual worlds with various genres of games.


Game trailer:









In the year 2142, inside the mysteries of the quantum supercomputer created by Lambert Wilson, there is a cyber-universe surrounded by brightly colored cubes called Net-Cubes. Within them, they hold fantastic virtual worlds of pixelated and abstract structures. It is free from threats like hackers, cyber-spies and corporate and government organizations. But that doesn't mean that they don’t have their own dangers surrounding them; such as the villain of the red Net-Cube: Cracksom Virus. This dominant virus is putting all Net-Cubes in danger of being permanently eliminated, so he can expand his empire of computing corruption to the real world, abandoned by humans.





Then, a messaging algorithm called E-Mailer arrives at the world of Bloxland Qubitown, the Randy and Manilla’s home, giving them an urgent warning: the entire cyber-universe is in grave danger of being destroyed by Cracksom. He knows that they are the only ones who can stop his great threat. And so, they accept the mission and embark on a great adventure through all the different Net-Cubes. E-Mailer will also come along and open portals so our heroes can access the new worlds.

It's a Devlog, and yes, the main inspiration of this game is Wreck-It Ralph, it shows in the design of the logo and some characters.
Another of the most outstanding things that the film had, were the cameos and the references to classic video games, that's why I chose the multigenre, where in each Net-Cube it's a simplification with levels based on each genre.
For example, Terra-Qubit have platformer levels, Gamezone Cube it's arcade themed, Rol & Rogue, between rogue-lite & RPG, Wonder Race a platformers with runner & racing levels, etc.

A small advance with two improvements that will have in future Randy & Manilla updates:

1.


The 2D Randy & Manilla versions they will also have their shadows. This gives a little more cohesion to its locations in 3D stages, especially when the illumination give them.


2.


If the minimap alone wasn't enough to orient yourself to the selectable Net-Cubes, it will be possible to enlarge it and also to be able to rotate it to obtain a full map picture. That makes for a great guide to directing the ship to the Net-Cube it needs to go to.

After the release of 2nd beta and its marketing spend, my development rhythm is slower and more constrained than ever. That's why I made an Indiegogo campaign for Randy & Manilla:





As a curiosity If you have noticed something new in the trailer, it is that another character face has been revealed that will join the game cast:



Blue Quantáramo, the Mayor and Commander of Quantum City. He is responsible to send the alert message to E-Mailer about the threat of Cracksom Virus to Randy and Manilla. Surely they will have seen him from behind when starting the game from the 2nd beta.

One of the objectives set for the Indiegogo campaign, is to apply the multilanguage option so that players of different languages can enjoy it with their own.

At the moment it's a very early sample that only occupies the pause menu:



As you can see, the alternation between words in English and Spanish is shown.

So far, the game will only be developed with these two, but if it exceeds its goal, more languages will be added in the future.

Surely one of the most criticized points of the game, is undoubtedly that Randy moves slowly. Although in reality it isn't that Randy is slow, but because of his animation he seems slow. That's why the sprint button has been added for Randy, thus inheriting a bit of his sister Manilla's speed.





After this sample, possibly several changes will be made due to the addition of that mechanic and some more polishing.

Depending on the language that you choose, the middle letter of the game title is changed to fit the corresponding language.

Just now discovered this project. Let me say, I found this amusing, because I'm also making a game that has the word ‘Randy’ in its title and has a (slight) Wreck-It-Ralph influence. Funny how things work out like that. I’ll make a DevLog on it soon.


By the way, I’m not posting here to promote it. I just wanted to point out the parallels.

Yeah, Actually I haven't seen any other indie game that is also inspired by the same movie, but more hidden and much better executed than mine. Only someone like me should have come up with that idea, with a virtual world based on the friendly design of such characters, along with the influence of quantum computing, the metaverses and artificial intelligence.
