I'm finally ready to make a thread on this game BlinkBlink

Bad Pixels is an 8-bit 3D shoot-out set in the old west, currently in development.

Have you ever wondered what a FPS game would look like in 8-bit? It's gotta look bad, right?

Introducing BAD PIXELS. A first person shooter set in the old west, using computer graphics from about the same era!

Features:
  • Rocking 8-bit chip-tune sound track.
  • Badly pixelated graphics.
  • First person shooting.
  • Rogue-lite gameplay over 4 zones.
  • Weird bosses.

I wrote a little bit about the development tools used in this game on itch.io, but feel free to ask me anything here. In short, the game is made in Unity and the music is made in Deflemask. The graphical effect is written in a custom renderer.

Please join me on this wild ride!

(available to wishlist on Steam)

Bad Pixels uses a custom rendering engine, so it is a bit tricky to see models working how they should without running the game. Then I have move around the levels to find the models and see if everything is working properly.

That got a bit tiresome so I made this! An in-game model viewer.

Do my eyes deceive me or does this game actually respect the pixel grid of the resolution it renders at?  Kiss

Yep! The main part of the game runs in "Multicolor" mode, double width pixels.

new video is up! I'm working on an event system for the game, where interactions can either take place by pressing the interact key, or just shooting a la Homer Simpson style.

Wow, very distinctive. Like Sierra’s adventure game from the 80’s expanded to 3D. For extreme authenticity, you should have an option for a beeper music.
