What I was trying to say was that LoZ uses colons in virtually every title and yet it's really successful.

But yeah, you're right.

Colons are often used to avoid copy write issues or to tell more about the story, I think they work for the LOZ, since they've been around since second one. Many "A" list titles are returning to the colon-less name style 'Haze' 'Army of Two' 'Mass Effect"

damn, how did i miss the 8 page thread?

im a total name nazi.
i can spend MONTHS trying to find the perfect name.
what's in a name? a whole fucking lot.

a lot of games have such absolutely terrible names.
my rule of thumb is: if there's a colon or a subtitle ion there, its hot garbage in the sun. if you cant convey the essence of your game in just a few words, you suck at naming things and you shouldnt be allowed to.

Fez: The Fezening
Fez: Return To Castle Deathkill
Fez: The Rise and Fall Of Lord McMurder 2: Murder Me Tender

Kokoromi's first game was named GLEE. it was a simple little game about saving these happy little guys from these bad bad deathskull things. you had no weapons and all you could do was rescue, not kill. so we called it GLEE.
when tetsuya mizuguchi played it at gamma01, and we asked him what he though of hit, he simply replied "happy emotion!" and we were all FUCK YEAH. EXACTLY.

then i made a game about collecting funny little hats and and i called it Fez.

we're also working on a series of small experimental music games. think bit generations but all about music, and with innovative user interfaces (none of that DDR/Guitar hero hit-the-notes-as-they-fall-down crap) and we're calling the series DISCOGRAPHY.

i also want to make a game about a chicken in a dungeon called CHICKEN OF MANA.

i think im awesome at naming things.

How about 70's Robot Anime: Geppy-X: The Super Boosted Armor?
That starts with a number, has a needless 'the', has 2 colons and a dash, I think you are trying to kill poor Benzido.

all it needs is the game director's name at the front, with an apostrophe s. Then it will win the over load award, but the 2 colons is a nice touch.

It's ok, but it's a missed opportunity to tell people that they get to play as the dungeon. I would try to personify the dungeon a bit. Here is a name which personifies the dungeon and alliterates:

"Hungry Dungeon"

Yeah, 'I, DUNGEON' is a good name. But 'Booyah!' would be a good name for a different game. Maybe a street hoops style game.

Here are some other names which don't yet have games:

"In Another Castle"

"Extrapolate!"

"You're Grounded"

"Play It By Trust"

"Fingersmith"

"Blue Yonder" (I tried to make this game but failed - check the unfinished game dump)

"Hush"

"Widdershins" (means, counter-clockwise)

"See You Never!"

"Yes/No/Baby"

"Race Divide"

"What Not To Wear" (a TV-show tie-in, interpreted literally)

"Jump Back Jack"

"Free as a Bird"

"Thwarted"

"He Don't Exist"

"Friction"

"Paris Hilton Goes Down"

Ok, clearly I'm out of ideas. Contribute your own!

I am terrible at coming up with names. I usually just give it a short, generic one just to put it behind me. Granted, I haven't actually MADE a real game yet, so that hasn't been an issue yet.

Anyway, I have an idea for a game that's about a war between characters made of vector graphics, and characters made of raster images.

I called it Vector.

There's GOTTA be something better than that.

I don't mean to spoil the fun, but this seems less of a 'I will rate your game's name' and more of a 'I will suggest hilarious names for your game and then laugh when you actually use them.'

We're only suggesting hilarious names for hilarious game ideas. If you have some sort of serious game, I can offer something more serious in return. Like, if you have a stock market simulator, I will name it
