It's important to remember that "Skyrim" was a thing back in Arena. Bethesda didn't pull it out of their asses to name the latest game in the series; they named it after something that was already within their continuity.

That's true, though the fact stays that Skyrim is a made-up, cool-sounding word. Bethesda came up with it ('pulled out of their ass') long before Skyrim, the game, true — along with Morrow-(w)ind, Hammer-fell, Black Marsh etc. (all those are names that they found by following a similar process to the one I'm describing above). I used Skyrim as an example not because I thought Bethesda came up with the name in 2011 (Skyrim release date) but because it's a great example of a cool-sounding, easy-to-remember compound name. Sorry for the confusion.

Gerty
Hey! We've had multiple discussions about our games name, Gerty. We have also got positive and negative feedback about it. What is your opinion?
The game is a sci-fi roguelite shooter with digging and character progression. Gerty doesn't have any actual context in the game yet, but we've been working on a background story where it would be a name of a calactic mining company.

I'd call it 70s skate. That way you also expand the theme. Google finds really cool images with that too. Does the Game Name Clinic also treat plant names? These poor three plants need a name. Preferably silly, maybe latin-sounding.

Gemini bird sounds really cool! The word "gemini" instantly makes me think about SPACE. It suits your game well.

Hello! I'd like to get some feedback on the game name i'm working on. The game is called: Graveyard Goldmine It is aimed to become a procedurally generated endless survival game where you have to - get in, get as much gold as possible and get out in one piece. Thoughts?

Actually I called it Mainasutto: INA or just MINA, and well, it's a metroidvanioa style game that I'm working on with a composser for almost 3 years. It's basically an exploration platformer with the feature that everything you do and some NPC you help or kill will remember your actions on the next "reset" ( his world resets every 7 in-game days) 'cause they know that his life is just a videogame. Eventually your objetive is to save his souls or the timeline from the constant timeline collapse making decisions.

My game is called Modlands. It's a creative world-sim; someone told me today it's like Black & White meets Dwarf Fortress. What do you think?

A game that takes place in the age of Neanderthals and the goal is to craft every major invention created by humans during the stone ages. Alpha trailer: Here is the soft launched version of the game (only iOS): https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/crafter-game/id1067104191 Thinking about the name Master Crafter. Any other good suggestions?

I'm renaming my game. It's a story-driven platformer about a Wizard and a Slug. Here is a trailer: Here are some ideas. Suggestions?

Hi,
Do you think the name Slaves Eclipse is offensive? The game has slaves in cages and you have to rescue them. Having villagers and characters in cages in games is standard but is the name offensive?

I don't know why "Slaves Eclipse" would be offensive. Because a solar eclipse is dark? That'd be quite far fetched. To me the name is wierd though, and makes no sense. Also for me it is hard to remember. I recommend finding something else. You could search for adjectives to set the mood, especially if emotions are a central part of the game.
@Silkworm_sweatshop I like "The wizard and the Slug" best from the list. How about "Slug and Sorcery" or "The Sorcerer and the Slug" You have all these fruits in the game, maybe use that.
My game is about growing plants (see sig). I could stick with Botanical Box. Or I silly name it Photosynthesizzle. Whadayyathink?

Thanks melerski.
I like the names for your game. Although it might be too technical for non-geeks. I'd change it for that reason. But if I had to pick one I think the second has more sizzle in it. Although I would be expecting some heat in the game, too much sun causes the planet to sizzle. So the name would need to fulfill the expectations in the gameplay.

What do you think of "Northbound"?
My RPG is about slaying monsters, just like Diablo. It takes place in a cold and snowy world.
